Outcomes of Older Adults and Frail Patients Receiving Idecabtagene Vicleucel: A CIBMTR Study.

Idecabtagene vicleucel (ide-cel) is an anti-BCMA CAR-T cell therapy approved for patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) after 2 prior lines of therapy. There is limited data on outcomes of CAR T in older adults and frail patients with RRMM. In this study, we utilized data from the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplantation Registry to describe the safety and efficacy of ide-cel in these clinically important subgroups.

BCMA-directed CAR T-cell Therapy in patients with multiple myeloma and CNS involvement.

We investigated BCMA-directed CART in patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) and CNS involvement. Ten patients who received either ide-cel (n=6) or cilta-cel (n=4) were included in this analysis. Patients had brain/cranial nerve and/or spinal cord involvement/leptomeningeal disease evident on either MRI (100%) and/or CSF (40%).

Towards Bacterial Resistance via the Membrane Strategy: Enzymatic, Biophysical and Biomimetic Studies of the Lipid cis-trans Isomerase of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

The lipid cis-trans isomerase (Cti) is a periplasmic heme-c enzyme found in several bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a pathogen known for causing nosocomial infections. This metalloenzyme catalyzes the cis-trans isomerization of unsaturated fatty acids in order to rapidly modulate membrane fluidity in response to stresses that impede bacterial growth. As a consequence, breakthrough in the elucidation of the mechanism of this metalloenzyme might lead to new strategies to combat bacterial antibiotic resistance.

Feline chronic enteropathies (FCE), include food-responsive-enteropathy (FRE), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and low-grade intestinal T-cell lymphoma (LGITL), and are common causes of chronic gastrointestinal signs in cats. Distinguishing between different subgroups of FCE can be challenging due to the frequent overlap of anamnestic, clinical, and laboratory data. While dysregulation in lipid metabolism has been reported in humans and dogs with chronic IBD, similar changes in cats are not yet completely understood.

Clinical outcomes after idecabtagene vicleucel in older patients with multiple myeloma: a multicenter real-world experience.

The safety and efficacy of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy is not well described in older patients, a population that has higher frailty and comorbidities. In this multicenter retrospective study, we evaluated clinical outcomes along with frailty and geriatric characteristics such as comorbidities, polypharmacy, falls, neuropathy, organ dysfunction, and performance status in younger (aged <65 years) vs older (aged ≥65 years) patients who received commercial idecabtagene vicleucel (ide-cel). A total of 156 patients (n = 75, aged ≥65 years) were infused with ide-cel by data cutoff.

Mechanisms and management of CAR T toxicity.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapies have dramatically improved treatment outcomes for patients with relapsed or refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, large B-cell lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, mantle cell lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. Despite unprecedented efficacy, treatment with CAR T cell therapies can cause a multitude of adverse effects which require monitoring and management at specialized centers and contribute to morbidity and non-relapse mortality. Such toxicities include cytokine release syndrome, immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome, neurotoxicity distinct from ICANS, immune effector cell-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis-like syndrome, and immune effector cell-associated hematotoxicity that can lead to prolonged cytopenias and infectious complications.

The levels of blood eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are very variable and, in general, low in most of the world population. In this study, the effects of age, sex, COVID-19, and dietary habits on the lipid profile of the erythrocyte membranes were assessed in a sub-cohort of healthy population (N = 203) from a large cohort of individuals from the Basque Country, Spain, (AKRIBEA). Sex did not have an effect on RBC lipid profile.

Racial and ethnic differences in clinical outcomes among patients with multiple myeloma treated with CAR T-cell therapy.

Recent advances in omic tools, such as the lipid profile of the mature erythrocyte membranes (LPMEM), allow to have a comprehensive vision of the nutritional and metabolic status of these individuals to provide personalized recommendations for nutrients, specifically, the essential omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, individuating deficiencies/unbalances that can arise from both habitual diet and sportive activity. This work aimed to study the LPMEM in professional female football players during the football season for the first time and compare it with those defined as optimal values for the general population and a control group.

Introduction: Circumcision is a common procedure that can evoke caregiver anxiety in the postoperative period due to unfamiliarity with the healing process. To mitigate unnecessary healthcare utilization such as phone calls and unanticipated clinic or emergency department (ED) visits, photographic atlases have been developed to better prepare caregivers for the recovery process. Plasmalogens: Free Radical Reactivity and Identification of Trans Isomers Relevant to Biological Membranes.
