Background: To describe the use of a bilateral thoracic (T5 - T9) ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block (UG-ESPB) in dogs undergoing sternotomy anaesthetised with propofol and dexmedetomidine continuous infusions.
Methods: Demographic information, perioperative anaesthetic and analgesic drugs, the prevalence of hypotension and nociceptive events, and their treatment, were recorded and analysed. Local anaesthetic injection point, volume and concentration were reported for each dog.
Purpose: Previous studies evaluating hindfoot and knee alignment have suggested compensation between the knee and the hindfoot deformities. However, these studies did not investigate the influence of the orientation of the subtalar axis on the results.
Material And Methods: Using computed tomography data of patients without osteoarthritis, digital twins, and artificial intelligence, we identified the orientation of the axis of the subtalar joint.
Sebaceous adenoma of the conjunctiva is a very rare lesion of uncertain origin. It is usually associated with Muir-Torre syndrome in which neoplasms are also found in other parts of the body. We present the case of a 71-year-old man without a previous or family history of neoplasia, who presented with severe inflammation and an infection in his right eye associated with a tumor of the conjunctiva near the caruncle.

Further knowledge regarding individual axis of motion of the ankle is therefore needed.
Material And Methods: Therefore, digital twins, artificial intelligence, and machine learning technology were used to identify a real personalized motion axis of the tibiotalar joint.
A newly discovered cold seep from the Lofoten-Vesterålen margin (Norwegian Sea) is dominated by the chemosymbiotrophic siboglinid Oligobrachia haakonmosbiensis like other high latitude seeps, but additionally displays uncharacteristic features. Sulphidic bottom water likely prevents colonization by cnidarians and sponges, resulting in fewer taxa than deeper seeps in the region, representing a deviation from depth-related trends seen among seeps elsewhere. It relies on an optical feedback cavity enhanced absorption technique designed for trace gas measurements and coupled to a patent-pending sample extraction method. The considerable advantage of the instrument compared with existing ones lies in its fast response time of the order of 30 s, that makes this probe ideal for fast and continuous 3D-mapping of dissolved methane in water.

Anthelmintic resistance (AR) to netobimin (benzimidazole) was found in all 15 herds in which it was tested. AR to ivermectin (avermectin) and levamisole (imidazothiazole) were also very largely spread (14 out of 17 farms and 7 out of 9 farms, respectively).

Long second-toe syndrome, although frequent and disabling, has been little described. Current surgical techniques often lead to loss of function. Based on anatomical and biomechanical observations, the present study reports a second phalanx shortening osteotomy technique.

Recent studies, however, have shown that some extant echinoderms may also display modified ossicles with microlenses acting as sophisticated photosensory organs. Thanks to their remarkable properties, these calcitic microlenses serve as an inspiration for scientists across various disciplines among which bio-inspired engineering.

Since the discovery of a large number of gas flares at the landward termination of the gas hydrate stability zone off Svalbard, there has been concern that warming bottom waters have started to dissociate large amounts of gas hydrate and that the resulting methane release may possibly accelerate global warming. Here, we corroborate that hydrates play a role in the observed seepage of gas, but we present evidence that seepage off Svalbard has been ongoing for at least 3000 years and that seasonal fluctuations of 1° to 2°C in the bottom-water temperature cause periodic gas hydrate formation and dissociation, which focus seepage at the observed sites.

Introduction: Exhaustive biometric data of the talus and the navicular bones have not been reported in the classical anatomy treatises.
Hypothesis: The radiographic measurements, being variable according to the X-ray beam inclination, have no real value. This biometric analysis aimed to specify the characteristics of the constitutive bone components of the talonavicular joint.

Until recently, it has been assumed that pelagic crinoids, the roveacrinids (Roveacrinida, Crinoidea), became extinct during the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary event. Recent finds of well-preserved roveacrinidal remains (brachials and radials) in the Danian (Early Paleogene) of Poland showed that they survived into the earliest Cenozoic. This group was thus characterized as a "dead clade walking".

The secondary objective of this randomised controlled trial (RCT) is to compare results of two randomised groups: with or without post-treatment compression.
Patients And Methods: Forty patients with incompetent great or small saphenous veins underwent ultrasound-guided FS.
Objective: A functional haplotype of peptidyl arginine deiminase 4 (PADI4) was associated with susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in Asian populations, but the results are contradictory in Europeans. We investigated (1) the association of 2 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) located in exon 2 of PADI4 with RA in another Caucasian population; and (2) the association between PADI4 and anti-citrullinated protein (anti-CCP) antibodies.
Methods: DNA samples were obtained from 405 French RA patients and 275 controls.
Objective: The authors wanted to assess the level of Streptococcus pneumoniae antibiotic resistance in Ile de France.
Method: In 2001, 637 clinical strains of S. pneumoniae were prospectively collected from 32 microbiology laboratories.

The authors report a series of Weil's cervicocapital metatarsal osteotomies which were performed to treat central metatarsalgias. The series included 70 central metatarsalgias treated by osteotomy of one to four metatarsals. There was an excess of length of one or several metatarsals in all cases; there were 30 metatarsophalangeal dislocations.

The activities of 15 oral beta-lactams against Klebsiella pneumoniae harboring new extended-spectrum beta-lactamases were studied. All compounds were affected by these enzymes, especially by the SHV derivatives. Except for ceftibuten, the compounds with the greatest intrinsic activity were more affected by the presence of these enzymes than were older compounds with moderate intrinsic activity.

Combinations of different beta-lactam antibiotics, including cefotaxime, with three beta-lactamase inhibitors were tested against cephalosporinase producing bacterial strains. The most significant antagonism was obtained with a combination of clavulanic acid and cefotaxime, while almost no antagonism was observed with sulbactam and tazobactam. In strains belonging to five different species there was a correlation between the levels of cephalosporinase produced after exposure to different concentrations of inhibitors and the MICs of cefotaxime combined with the same concentrations of inhibitors.

A study was made of 30 patients presenting with lumbar and thoracolumbar scoliosis; 15 patients had been treated with a 3-valve orthosis and 15 with a Boston brace. The mean age at the commencement of treatment was 14 years for the 3-valve orthosis and 14 years 4 months for the Boston brace. The total duration of treatment was 11.

Broadening the antibacterial spectrum, looking for synergism and preventing the emergence of resistant mutants constitute a major preoccupation, especially in immunodepressed patients, and an indication for combined antibiotic therapy. The most effective combination, justified by in vitro tests, consists of a beta-lactam antibiotic and an aminoglycoside.
