BackgroundToscana virus (TOSV) is transmitted to humans through bites of infected sand flies. Neuroinvasive TOSV infections are leading causes of meningitis/encephalitis in southern Europe and notifiable in Italy since 2016. In 2022-23, Italy experienced extreme climate anomalies and a concomitant increase in mosquito and tick-borne disease transmission.

Despite the high risk of concussions for certain sports, previous research indicates many parents would let their children play these sports. Understanding which high-risk sports parents will let their children play, and why parents let them play high-risk sports is critical to understanding how best to educate parents about concussion risk and its consequences.

The anode was prepared using the Pechini method and subsequently characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The optimum values of the operational parameters affecting removal efficiency were determined using a 2 × 3 factorial design by screening (6.

We describe the ongoing epidemiological and microbiological investigation and public health measures implemented to contain the outbreak. The high transmissibility and the extension of the outbreak suggest that dengue should be expected in temperate regions during favourable seasons, highlighting the need for heightened awareness among healthcare providers and the public to ensure timely detection and response.

At variance with previous approaches, we present an analysis of GLV dynamics with temporal stochastic fluctuations in interaction strengths between species. We develop a dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) tailored for scenarios with colored noise interactions, which we term annealed disorder, and simple functional responses.

An emergency recanalization with rigid bronchoscopy (RB) was planned. Controlled and jet ventilation are routinely used to assure ventilation during RB, but the risk of inadequate oxygenation and removal of carbon dioxide was prohibitively high in this case due to the presence of a single lung.

This research introduces ReMoVES, an Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) system delivering telemedicine services specifically tailored for multiple sclerosis rehabilitation, within the overarching framework of the STORMS project. The ReMoVES platform facilitates the provision of a rehabilitative exercise protocol, seamlessly integrated into the Individual Rehabilitation Project, curated by a multidimensional medical team operating remotely.

Colonic drug delivery offers numerous pharmaceutical opportunities, including direct access to local therapeutic targets and drug bioavailability benefits arising from the colonic epithelium's reduced abundance of cytochrome P450 enzymes and particular efflux transporters. Current workflows for developing colonic drug delivery systems involve time-consuming, low throughput in vitro and in vivo screening methods, which hinder the identification of suitable enabling materials. Polysaccharides are useful materials for colonic targeting, as they can be utilised as dosage form coatings that are selectively digested by the colonic microbiota.

The development relied on a 3 × 3 Box-Behnken experimental design, focusing on optimizing gelification temperature, viscosity and mucoadhesion. The primary objective of this work was to tailor the formulation for efficient nasal drug delivery.

Imaging monitoring is mandatory to evaluate the NAT efficacy. This study evaluates the diagnostic performance of Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM) in BC patients undergoing NAT.

Methods: This prospective study enrolled patients undergoing multiparametric breast ultrasound for FBLs. An experienced breast radiologist evaluated the following ultrasound features: US BI-RADS category, vascularization pattern (internal, vessels in rim and combined) and presence of penetrating vessels with each Doppler method (Color-Doppler, Power-Doppler, Microvascular imaging), strain ratio (SR) and Tsukuba score (TS) with Strain Elastography (SE), E, E, E and E with 2D-shear wave elastography (2D-SWE).
Purpose: To evaluate the impact of a four-month training program on radiology residents' diagnostic accuracy in assessing deep myometrial invasion (DMI) in endometrial cancer (EC) using MRI.
Method: Three radiology residents with limited EC MRI experience participated in the training program, which included conventional didactic sessions, case-centric workshops, and interactive classes. Utilizing a training dataset of 120 EC MRI scans, trainees independently assessed subsets of cases over five reading sessions.
Fasciola hepatica is a parasitic trematode that infects livestock animals and humans, causing significant health and economic burdens worldwide. The extensive use of anthelmintic drugs has led to the emergence of resistant parasite strains, posing a threat to treatment success. The complex life cycle of the liver fluke, coupled with limited funding and research interest, have hindered progress in drug discovery.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDespite increasing knowledge of disease-causing genes in human genetics, approximately half of the individuals affected by neurodevelopmental disorders remain genetically undiagnosed. Part of this missing heritability might be caused by genetic variants outside of protein-coding genes, which are not routinely diagnostically investigated. A recent preprint identified de novo variants in the non-coding spliceosomal snRNA gene RNU4-2 as a cause of a frequent novel syndromic neurodevelopmental disorder.

Experimental Design: To investigate the effects of MBI MYC mutations on hematopoietic cells, we employed a multi-omic approach to systematically compare the cellular and molecular consequences of expressing oncogenic doses of wild type, threonine-58 and proline-59 mutant MYC proteins in hematopoietic cells, and we developed a knockin mouse harboring the germline MBI mutation p.T58N in the Myc gene.
Objectives: Ascending aorta (AA) dilatation in patients with bicuspid aortic valve (AV) is related both to genetic and haemodynamic factors. The aim of this study is to compare late progression of AA dilatation in bicuspid AV patients undergoing surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) versus transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
Methods: Data of 189 consecutive patients who underwent AV replacement for severe bicuspid AV stenosis were prospectively collected.
Introduction: Numerous studies within the school and academic contexts have underscored the profound impact of psychometric variables such as academic self-efficacy, self-esteem, and loneliness on academic achievement among children. Although physical activities and dance practices are known to bolster academic self-efficacy and enhance academic outcomes, the effect of Artistic Sports Activities on these psychological determinants among left-behind children (LBC) in rural schools remains underexplored.
Method: This study was conducted from September 2020 to January 2022 among 405 LBCs aged 9 to 13 from six randomly selected primary schools in Hunan Province, China.
