Pseudoaneurysms of the popliteal artery represent a rare vascular pathology. Leaving aside traumatic antecedents, in the presence of sudden swelling of the popliteal region, it is useful to suspect this entity, especially in the presence of infectious processes or connective tissue disorders. We present two cases from our institution where management included surgical intervention and control of the underlying diseases.

In humans, LGL leukaemia is often associated with autoimmune disorders, including immune-mediated cytopaenias (mainly neutropaenia). This presentation is rare in dogs.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: To study the evolution of the incidence of early-onset neonatal sepsis (EOS) by Streptococcus agalactiae in the area of Barcelona and to analyze failure of compliance with the prevention protocol.
Methods: A retrospective review was carried out on EOS cases in 8 Health-Care Centers in the Barcelona area between 2004 and 2010.
Results: Forty-nine newborns from 48 mothers were diagnosed with EOS.
In this retrospective monocenter study, we analyzed the outcomes of 130 adult hematological patients who developed a proven (n = 23), probable (n = 71), and possible (n = 36) invasive aspergillosis (IA) in a 13-year period. Forty-nine patients (38%) were recipients of an allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AlloHSCT). The main goal of the study was the identification of prognostic factors for 4-month aspergillosis free survival (AFS) and overall survival (OS).

Objectives: The antifungal drug susceptibilities of 351 isolates of Candida species, obtained through active laboratory-based surveillance in the period January 2002-December 2003, were determined (Candida albicans 51%, Candida parapsilosis 23%, Candida tropicalis 10%, Candida glabrata 9%, Candida krusei 4%).
Methods: The MICs of amphotericin B, flucytosine, fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole and caspofungin were established by means of the broth microdilution reference procedure of the European Committee on Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing.
Results And Conclusions: Amphotericin B and flucytosine were active in vitro against all strains.
Purpose: The objective of the study was to investigate the sensitivity of the statutory reporting of Haemophilus influenzae invasive disease (HIID) during the period between 1996 and 1997 in Catalonia, Spain.
Methods: The incidence of HIID reported passively by clinicians was compared with the cases detected by a system of microbiological surveillance. In all cases isolated, the age of the patient, the clinical form and the serotype were investigated.
Introduction: To analyze the incidence of perinatal sepsis due to group B streptococcus (GBS) as related to compliance with recommendations for its prevention issued by the Catalan Societies for Obstetrics, for Pediatrics, and for Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology in 1997.
Methods: The study was conducted from 1994 to 2001 in 10 Barcelona-area hospitals, where 157,848 live infants were born.
Results: GBS disease was diagnosed in 129 neonates.
