Purpose: A re-transurethral resection of the bladder (re-TURB) is a well-established approach in managing non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) for various reasons: repeat-TURB is recommended for a macroscopically incomplete initial resection, restaging-TURB is required if the first resection was macroscopically complete but contained no detrusor muscle (DM) and second-TURB is advised for all completely resected T1-tumors with DM in the resection specimen. This study assessed the long-term outcomes after repeat-, second-, and restaging-TURB in T1-NMIBC patients.

Methods: Individual patient data with tumor characteristics of 1660 primary T1-patients (muscle-invasion at re-TURB omitted) diagnosed from 1990 to 2018 in 17 hospitals were analyzed.

The recent addition of novel immunotherapy drugs for the treatment of urothelial carcinoma makes it necessary the establishment of criteria to harmonize the immunohistochemical assessment of PD-L1, both as a prognostic factor and for the selection of patients to be treated. In this scenario, a group of uropathologists from the Spanish Society of Pathological Anatomy, together with a medical oncologist as an external collaborator subspecialized in uro-oncology, have prepared this document of recommendations based on the available evidence. During PD-L1 assessment it is especially relevant the selection of the sample, its processing, the immunohistochemical platform and antibody used, and the algorithm applied in the interpretation of results.

Context: The diagnostic accuracy of current imaging techniques in differentiating benign from malignant neoplasms in the case of indeterminate renal masses is still suboptimal.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of Tc-sestamibi (SestaMIBI) single-photon emission tomography computed tomography (SPECT)/CT in characterizing indeterminate renal masses by differentiating renal oncocytoma and hybrid oncocytic/chromophobe tumor (HOCT) from (1) all other renal lesions and (2) all malignant renal lesions. Secondary outcomes were: (1) benign versus malignant; (2) renal oncocytoma and HOCT versus clear cell (ccRCC) and papillary (pRCC) renal cell carcinoma; and (3) renal oncocytoma and HOCT versus chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (chRCC).

On the basis of the discussion of the current state of research on relevant topics of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) among a group of experts of the Spanish Oncology Genitourinary (SOGUG) Working Group, recommendations were proposed to overcome the challenges posed by the management of NMIBC in clinical practice. A unified definition of the term 'microhematuria' and the profile of the patient at risk are needed. Establishing a 'hematuria clinic' would contribute to a centralized and more efficient evaluation of patients with this clinical sign.
