Purpose: To investigate the impact of surgical approach and post-operative prophylaxis on heterotopic ossification (HO) development after total hip arthroplasty (THA).

Methods: A retrospective analysis of 312 patients who underwent THA between January 2009 and April 2016. Patients were categorized by surgical approach (direct lateral or posterolateral), prosthesis type, and post-operative prophylaxis (Etoricoxib 60 mg daily for two weeks).

Hip fractures (HFx) are associated with a higher morbidity and mortality rates, leading to a significant reduction in life quality and in limitation of patient´s mobility. The present study aimed to obtain real-world evidence on the clinical characteristics of patients with an initial and a second hip fracture (HFx) and develop a predictive model for second HFx using artificial intelligence. Electronic health records from one hospital centre in Spain from January 2011 to December 2019 were analysed using EHRead® technology, based on natural language processing and machine learning.

Background: Historically, aseptic loosening and osteolysis were responsible for most of the revisions among young and more active patients. Ceramic-on-ceramic bearings reduced wear but presented mechanical issues such ceramic fracture or liner chipping during insertion. To prevent this from happening a titanium-encased alumina liner was developed.

Introduction: Ochronosis is an inherited metabolic disease that causes a brownish-black pigmentation of the connective tissue. There is currently no specific treatment for ochronosis. The goal of treatment is to control the progress of disease with a multidisciplinary approach and symptomatic relief.
