Despite the extensive development of microalgae biotechnology, it still requires new methodologies to lower production costs, especially in the field of biofuel production. Therefore, innovative methods that facilitate operations and enable cost-effective production are important in driving this industry. In this study, we propose a new low-cost and easy-to-use procedure, addressed to the generation of a culture medium for Scenedesmus acutus.

Mycobacterium bovis Osteomyelitis of the Thoracic Spine Mimicking a Metastatic Lytic Lesion in a Patient Exposed to Intravesicular Bacille Calmette-Guérin Treatment.

An 80-year-old man with previous intravesicular bacille Calmette-Guérin therapy developed mass lesions of the lower thoracic spine. Metastatic disease was suspected. The patient underwent a course of radiation; however, biopsy later demonstrated fibrosis and cultures grew Mycobacterium bovis.

Herpesvirus saimiri-transformed CD8+ T cells as a tool to study Chediak-Higashi syndrome cytolytic lymphocytes.

Cytolytic CD8+ T lymphocytes are the main cell type involved in the fatal lymphoproliferative-accelerated phase of the Chediak-Higashi syndrome (CHS). To generate a cellular tool to study the defects of this T cell subset in vitro, we have used Herpesvirus saimiri, a lymphotropic virus that transforms human T lymphocytes into extended growth and in addition, endows them with natural killer (NK) features. Transformed CHS CD8+ T cells were generated and characterized in comparison with healthy controls.
