Draft Genome Sequence of Calonectria pteridis, the Causal Agent of Calonectria Leaf Blight on Eucalyptus.

Here, we report the draft genome sequence of Calonectria pteridis, the causal agent of Calonectria leaf blight in eucalyptus plantations in Brazil. The 58,373,473-bp genome assembly consists of 1,167 scaffolds, with a GC content of 50.21%.

Genetic data improve the assessment of the conservation status based only on herbarium records of a Neotropical tree.

Although there is a consensus among conservation biologists about the importance of genetic information, the assessment of extinction risk and conservation decision-making generally do not explicitly consider this type of data. Genetic data can be even more important in species where little other information is available. In this study, we investigated a poorly known legume tree, Dimorphandra exaltata, from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, a hotspot for conservation.

Innovation in the role of the Office of the Ombudsman of the Unified Health System (SUS) - reflections and potential benefits.

This article seeks to reflect on the potential of innovative practices in the design and work of the government bodies that comprise the National System of Offices of the Ombudsman of the Unified Health System. It is divided into two parts, seeking to answer the following question: How to think of and implement innovative practices - which include sustainability - when the people are voicing their urgent demands and these are being heard by the public authorities? These grievances are all the more urgent as they involve the area of Health and can they be promptly discussed, attended and resolved? In the first part, the article discusses the polysemic concept of innovation, focusing on its application in the three spheres of public administration, and highlights the importance of its close correlation with the different notions of information and knowledge in a society such as the one we live in. In the second, it develops a task-force of ideas for the office of the ombudsman and based on this, a draft operational concept of innovation in the role of the office of the ombudsman, considering the context of high speed change and transformations and the complexity inherent to contemporary life and the need for resource management and expertise development in information management.

Naming Potentially Endangered Parasites: Foliicolous Mycobiota of Dimorphandra wilsonii, a Highly Threatened Brazilian Tree Species.

A survey of foliicolous fungi associated with Dimorphandra wilsonii and Dimorphandra mollis (Fabaceae) was conducted in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Dimorphandra wilsonii is a tree species native to the Brazilian Cerrado that is listed as critically endangered. Fungi strictly depending on this plant species may be on the verge of co-extinction.

Access to treatment for those with alcohol, crack or other drug dependency problems--a case study in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Changes in psychiatric policies has meant more emphasis on the protection of the individual's rights, tougher regulations and disincentives regarding involuntary patient admissions, and the creation of a community network to support individuals needing help. The differing socioeconomic status of those requiring treatment coupled with guidelines issued by the Health Ministry has meant that more support and care is now being directed towards individuals and families. The rise in public awareness of the problems in these areas has aided in the changes that have taken place.

A review of Brazilian scientific output on crack--contributions to the political agenda.

Object: scientific literature about crack abuse published in Brazilian journals indexed in SCIELO.

Objective: systematic review of literature treating findings as a framework for agenda-setting orienting policy decision makers.

Methodology: SCIELO online journals research since 02/06/2013 on tag crack as "key word searched" and in indexes as "research amplitude".

[Reflections on health policy evaluation in Brazil].

This article aims to contribute to the debate on public policy evaluation, specifically in the Brazilian health sector. The objective is to analyze some of the key issues in this field through a literature search in the SciELO database. Sixty-six articles were selected using the descriptors "health evaluation" and "evaluation of health programs and projects" in indexed Brazilian public health periodicals from 1994 to 2009.
