Coxsackie B Virus-Induced Cardiac Tamponade and Adrenal Insufficiency.

We report a case involving a young male patient without a significant medical history who exhibited symptoms of fatigue, shortness of breath, chest and back pain, and syncope with vomiting. He was found to have adrenal insufficiency and cardiac tamponade requiring pericardiocentesis. Further inpatient workup revealed the patient had positive IgM and IgG antibody titers for the coxsackie B virus, which we believe caused his presentation.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TCM) is a reversible syndrome that resembles a myocardial infarction but without typical coronary stenosis and with an apical "ballooning" image present on an echocardiogram. Multiple triggers have been linked to TCM but rarely, acute severe hypoglycemia. This is a case of a 39-year-old woman who was brought to the emergency department after being found unresponsive at home.

A subclass of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is euglycemic DKA, characterized by the same traits of ketoacidosis and low bicarbonate levels. However, the condition differs from classic DKA because of its normoglycemic levels. Euglycemic DKA was once thought to be incredibly rare, but its incidence has been on the rise with the widespread use of sodium-glucose-cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors and other newer anti-diabetic medications.

Transgenesis of large DNA constructs is essential for gene function analysis. Recently, Tol2 transposase-mediated transgenesis has emerged as a powerful tool to insert bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) DNA constructs into the genome of zebrafish. For efficient transgenesis, the genomic DNA piece in the BAC construct needs to be flanked by Tol2 transposon sites, and the constructs should contain a transgenesis marker for easy identification of transgenic animals.

Tracheoinnominate fistula: a rare acute complication of penetrating neck injury.

Penetrating injuries in the base of the neck are considered to be the most dangerous due to the potential combination of vascular and intrathoracic lesions. We describe an extremely rare case of combined injury of the trachea and innominate artery, which resulted in formation of a traumatic acute tracheoinnominate fistula. Previously, these fistulas have been described as an iatrogenic complication of tracheostomy, presenting with massive peristomal bleed or hemoptysis.

Overexpression of follistatin in trout stimulates increased muscling.

Deletion or inhibition of myostatin in mammals has been demonstrated to markedly increase muscle mass by hyperplasia, hypertrophy, or a combination of both. Despite a remarkably high degree of conservation with the mammalian protein, the function of myostatin remains unknown in fish, many species of which continue muscle growth throughout the lifecycle by hyperplasia. Transgenic rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) overexpressing follistatin, one of the more efficacious antagonists of myostatin, were produced to investigate the effect of this protein on muscle development and growth.
