Introduction: Cryolipolysis (CLL) is a widely employed noninvasive procedure for body fat reduction. It operates by inducing cooling, leading to the crystallization of cytoplasmic lipids, loss of cellular integrity, and apoptosis/necrosis of adipocytes, accompanied by local inflammation. Ongoing discussions revolve around CLL's potential to transform white adipocytes into brown adipocytes, potentially yielding more significant effects compared to alternative procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the prevalence of FGFR mutations and fusions in Latino patients with metastatic urothelial carcinoma (mUC), finding these alterations in 17.9% of the analyzed population.
  • Despite the presence of FGFR alterations, there was no significant difference in overall survival and time to treatment failure compared to patients without these mutations.
  • The research also validates Bellmunt's prognostic model for predicting overall survival in this specific cohort of patients.

This study aimed to compare the inter-software and inter-observer reliability and agreement for the assessment of follicular and luteal morphometry and echotexture parameters in beef crossbreed females (3/8 Bos taurus indicus and 5/8 Bos taurus taurus). B-mode and color Doppler ultrasonographic ovarian images were obtained at specific time points of estradiol-progesterone-based protocols for timed artificial insemination (TAI). Sonograms were analyzed by two observers using a licensed (IASP1) and an open access (IASP2) software package.

Polymersomes are synthetic vesicles with potential use in healthcare, chemical transformations in confined environment (nanofactories), and in the construction of artificial cells and organelles. In this framework, one of the most important features of such supramolecular structures is the permeability behavior allowing for selective control of mass exchange between the inner and outer compartments. The use of biological and synthetic nanopores in this regard is the most common strategy to impart permeability nevertheless, this typically requires fairly complex strategies to enable porosity.

To date, there have been no studies testing the capacity of GnRH analogs and respective doses to induce a LH peak in sheep. In this sense, the present study aimed to evaluate the capacity of different synthetic forms and doses of GnRH in inducing LH release in sheep, and the effect of GnRH administration at timed artificial insemination (TAI) on pregnancy per timed-AI. In experiment 1, ewes (n = 40) received an intravaginal device (IVD) of medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA; 60 mg) for 7 d and prostaglandin F analog on Day 5.

Background: In recent years, aesthetic procedures aiming at body remodeling and have grown exponentially. Cryolipolysis (CLL) has stood out as a noninvasive resource that acts directly on the subcutaneous adipose tissue promoting a significant reduction of adipose tissue through of cooling that could lead to the crystallization cytoplasmic lipids, loss of cellular integrity, apoptosis/necrosis of adipocytes, and local inflammation, producing selective loss of adipose tissue. Thus, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of a specific technique of CLL application on the inflammatory reactions of the target tissue in different post-application times.

We evaluated the use of lipopeptides capable to bind to nucleic acids towards plasmid DNA (pDNA) delivery. The investigations were particularly focused on arising retinal pigment epithelial cells (ARPE-19) as motivated by the considerable number of ocular disorders linked to gene aberrations. The lipopeptides comprised the artificial oligoamino acid succinyl-tetraethylene pentamine (Stp) as well as incorporated lysines, histidines, cysteines, fatty acids, and tyrosine trimers.

Background: The influence of exhaustive whole-body exercise and caffeine ingestion on electromechanical delay (EMD) has been underexplored. This study investigated the effect of exhaustive cycling exercise on EMD and other parameters of muscle contractile properties and the potential ability of caffeine to attenuate the exercise-induced impairments in EMD and muscle contractile properties.

Methods: Ten healthy men cycled until exhaustion (88±2% of V̇O2max) on two separate days after ingesting caffeine (5 mg.

Objective: To analyze the association between changes in body adiposity and length of service on a schedule of rotating shifts.

Methods: The study was a cross-sectional investigation conducted during the years 2012, 2015, and 2018, involving individuals engaged in rotating shifts at a company involved in iron ore extraction situated within the Iron Quadrangle region of Minas Gerais and the southeastern region of Pará, Brazil. Sociodemographic and behavioral data were collected along with anthropometric parameters in order to calculate body mass index (BMI) and the waist-to-height ratio (WHtR).

Background: Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) show great ability to differentiate into any tissue, making them attractive candidates for pathophysiological investigations. The rise of organ-on-a-chip technology in the past century has introduced a novel way to make cell cultures that more closely resemble their environments, both structural and functionally. The literature still lacks consensus on the best conditions to mimic the blood-brain barrier (BBB) for drug screening and other personalized therapies.

Polyethyleneimine (PEI) derivatives substituted by lactose, succinic acid or alkyl domains were evaluated as nonviral gene delivery vectors towards balancing gene transfection and cytotoxicity. The investigations were focused on pDNA transfection into arising retinal pigment epithelia (ARPE-19) and human hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cell lines. The first mentioned cell line was chosen as motivated by the non-negligible number of ocular disorders linked to gene aberrations, whereas the second one is a cell line overexpressing the asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGP-R), which can bind to galactose residues.

Objective: To identify the temporal trend in mortality and years of life lost to death or disability (DALY) due to motorcycle accidents in males from Latin America and the Caribbean from 2010 to 2019, using estimates produced by the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study.

Method: In this ecological study, the time series was analyzed using a piecewise linear regression model (joinpoint) to estimate and test the annual percent change and the average annual percent change with a 95% confidence interval.

Results: The super-region defined by GBD 2019 as Latin America and the Caribbean ranked first globally in mortality and DALY for male motorcyclists aged 15-49 in 2019.

  • The ability to customize the size and shape of self-assembling materials is crucial for creating effective delivery systems for drugs and other substances.
  • The study shows that the structure of certain block copolymer-based nanoplatforms changes significantly based on the molecular weight of the copolymer and the method used for self-assembly.
  • Various techniques, such as nanoprecipitation and solvent-switching, allow for tailoring these materials into different forms—like core-shell nanoparticles or vesicular structures—depending on the conditions, offering a versatile approach to nanotechnology in cargo delivery.

The present work aimed to synthesize and characterize a solid based on CoFeO/FeO-KIT-6 and evaluate its performance in the photocatalytic degradation of the remazol red ultra RGB dye. By analyzing XRD, N physisorption, and Mössbauer results, it was possible to identify that the desired CoFeO/FeO phase was achieved, which maintained its structural properties. The FTIR-pyridine indicated the presence of Lewis acid sites, while TPD-CO showed a large amount of weak basic sites.

Background: Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) can be applied to both hematopoietic and nonhematopoietic diseases; nonetheless, it still comes with a number of challenges and limitations that contribute to treatment failure. Bearing this in mind, a possible way to increase the success rate of BMT would be cotransplantation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) to improve the bone marrow niche and secrete molecules that enhance the hematopoietic engraftment.

Aim: To analyze HSC and MSC characteristics and their interactions through cotransplantation in murine models.
