Protein aggregation is a pathological feature of neurodegenerative disorders. We previously demonstrated that protein inclusions in the brain are composed of supersaturated proteins, which are abundant and aggregation-prone, and form a metastable subproteome. It is not yet clear, however, whether this phenomenon is also associated with non-neuronal protein conformational disorders.

- These proteins form inclusion bodies, which are clusters of aggregated proteins, and recent studies suggest that their formation is linked to a supersaturation of these proteins in motor neurons.
- The presence of coaggregating proteins in these inclusions indicates that ALS disrupts protein balance, leading to a greater tendency for these proteins to clump together in the brain and spinal cord.
