Aerobiology in the tropics is still a science in development, where very little about their dynamics is known. Airborne pollen concentrations in the city of Medellín (Colombia) were measured using a Hirst-type sampler and correlated with meteorological parameters (relative humidity, rainfall, temperature, wind speed, and wind direction, this last analyzed by using circular statistics). Sampling was conducted over three years (2019-2022), and pollen grains were detected on all days of sampling, at higher concentrations than expected for tropical conditions.

Geological events such as mountain uplift affect how, when, and where species diversify, but measuring those effects is a longstanding challenge. Andean orogeny impacted the evolution of regional biota by creating barriers to gene flow, opening new habitats, and changing local climate. B⁢o⁢m⁢a⁢r⁢e⁢a (Alstroemeriaceae) are tropical plants with (often) small, isolated ranges; in total, B⁢o⁢m⁢a⁢r⁢e⁢a species occur from central Mexico to central Chile.

Many species from across the vascular plant tree-of-life have modified standard plant tissues into tubers, bulbs, corms, and other underground storage organs (USOs), unique innovations which allow these plants to retreat underground. Our ability to understand the developmental and evolutionary forces that shape these morphologies is limited by a lack of studies on certain USOs and plant clades. Páramos are high-elevation isolated ecosystems in the Andes characterized by specific flora. This flora includes a number of endemic species and some taxa phylogenetically related to temperate lineages (van der Hammen and Cleef 1986). There are six páramo units or complexes in the Department of Antioquia, located in northwestern Colombia.

Studies on reproductive aspects of Lycopodiaceae are not very abundant in the scientific literature, and constitute essential information to support taxonomic and systematic relationships among the group. Here we present a detailed study of the ontogeny of sporangia and sporogenesis, and the chemical determination of several compounds generated during spore formation. The analyses were performed in 14 taxa of six genera of the family, Diphasiastrum, Diphasium, Huperzia (a genus which is treated here including Phlegmariurus), Lycopodiella, Lycopodium and Palhinhaea.
