Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) play crucial disinfectant roles in healthcare, industry, and domestic settings. Most commercially utilized QACs like benzalkonium chloride have a common architectural theme, leading to a rise in bacterial resistance and urgent need for novel structural classes. Some potent QACs such as chlorhexidine (CHX) and octenidine (OCT) feature a bolaamphiphilic architecture, comprised of two cationic centers at the molecular periphery and a non-polar region connecting them; these compounds show promise to elude bacterial resistance mechanisms.

Glioblastoma (GB) is the most prevalent and aggressive primary brain tumor with fatal outcome due to a lack of effective treatments. We previously identified C1q-tumor necrosis factor-related protein 8 (CTRP8), a new member of the adiponectin family, as a novel agonist of the relaxin family peptide receptor 1 (RXFP1) and showed that the CTRP8-RXFP1 ligand-receptor system facilitates increased invasiveness and chemoresistance in GB cells. In the present study, we have investigated the role of the CTRP8-RXFP1 signaling axis in glioma progression using an orthotopic mouse model xenografted with human U251 glioma cells stably expressing CTRP8 and RXFP1.

Background: Weight bias is characterised by negative attitudes towards people with a higher weight and is widespread in healthcare. Primary care professionals sometimes avoid discussing weight with patients due to concerns about upsetting them, insufficient training, resources, or referral pathways. There is, however, a responsibility for primary care professionals to address the health needs of patients, which may require discussing weight.

Textile-based thermoelectric (TE) devices are being investigated to power smart textiles autonomously. While previous research has focused on a solid system where the required junctions are fabricated into the device, there has been limited attention given to replacing these TE systems reliably. This work looks at a newer approach to the construction and demonstration of a wearable thermoelectric structure that employs three-dimensional knitted spacers to increase the temperature difference where the TE junctions are detachable and disposable.

Rates of infertility are rising, and informed decision making is an essential part of reproductive life planning with the knowledge that ART success decreases dramatically while a woman's age increases and that high costs can often be incurred during fertility treatment. We aimed to determine the current knowledge of infertility and its treatments in the general public through an online survey. We received 360 complete responses.

Role of the dengue vaccine TAK-003 in an outbreak response: Modeling the Sri Lanka experience.

Background: Outbreaks of dengue can overburden hospital systems, drastically reducing capacity for other care. The 2017 dengue serotype 2 (DENV-2) outbreak in Sri Lanka coincided with vaccination in an ongoing phase 3 efficacy trial of a tetravalent dengue vaccine, TAK-003 (NCT02747927). Here, we present data on the efficacy of TAK-003 following two doses of the vaccine administered 3 months apart in participants aged 4-16 years in Sri Lanka.

Cenozoic history of the tropical marine biodiversity hotspot.

The region with the highest marine biodiversity on our planet is known as the Coral Triangle or Indo-Australian Archipelago (IAA). Its enormous biodiversity has long attracted the interest of biologists; however, the detailed evolutionary history of the IAA biodiversity hotspot remains poorly understood. Here we present a high-resolution reconstruction of the Cenozoic diversity history of the IAA by inferring speciation-extinction dynamics using a comprehensive fossil dataset.

The co-design and acceptability of a genital body image educational video for people with a penis.

Within body image research, genital body image has not received significant attention. This project aimed to explore how positive genital body image could be fostered among people with a penis by co-designing and developing an educational resource. Participants were 22 people in Australia who identified as having a penis and were involved in three phases of co-design focus groups.

Here, we report the development of a noncovalent labeling approach where immunoglobulin G (IgG)-decorated NPs can be directed to a cancer cell using a simple, linear bispecific protein adaptor, termed MFE23-ZZ. MFE23-ZZ was created by fusing a single-chain fragment variable domain, termed MFE23, recognizing carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) expressed on tumor cells, to a small protein ZZ module, which binds to the Fc fragment of IgG.
