Nutritional supplementation with antioxidants and vitamins is widely recommended in the treatment of vascular disorders affecting the retina, although there is insufficient evidence on its effectiveness. The vitamin-like compound coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a nutritional supplement of current interest to treat neurodegenerative diseases. Here, we report a retrospective clinical case series study of 48 patients diagnosed with retinal vascular diseases, including non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), retinal artery occlusion (RAO), and homonymous hemianopia or quadrantanopia following stroke, treated with oral supplementation with CoQ10 (100 mg per day) and vitamins.

Methods: We have carried out this analysis using a bioimpedance scale BC-601 of the brand Tanita ISO 9001 Certified.
: To study the association of the most common methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase () genetic polymorphisms C677T and A1298C with retinal vein occlusion (RVO) in a Spanish population. : Case-control study involving 359 subjects, 183 unrelated native Spanish patients diagnosed with RVO, distributed in central or branch RVO, and 176 healthy controls. Two SNPs located in the gene , C677T (rs1801133) and A1298C (rs1801131) were analyzed by DNA sequencing and TaqMan assays.

: The use of high-performance sports technology to describe the physiological load of stress and the quality of recovery in a population of executives during the workday. : Heart rate variability values were recorded during 48 h from which the relationship between stress/recovery quality (stress balance) was obtained for three differentiated time slots: work, after work, and night in a workday. : We observed a negative stress balance during the 24 h of measurement in the course of a workday, being negative at work and after work, and positive at night.

Methods: Clinical assessment included uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), corneal topography, anterior segment optical coherence tomography, ultrasonic pachymetry, corneal hysteresis, and corneal resistance factor. Eccentric epithelium-off CXL was performed in both eyes after limbal conjunctival resection.
Propanil stress response in the eel () was examined. Eels were exposed to 3.16 mg/L for 72 hr and allowed to recover for 96 hr.

Thiobencarb and propanil are two of the most extensive used herbicides worldwide in rice cultivation. Especially scanty is the available information regarding the effect of herbicides on fish energy resources. In the present study, the effect of sublethal exposure to these herbicides on the energy reserves of juvenile eel Anguilla anguilla was compared.

Short-term effects of tricyclazole on male zebrafish (Danio rerio) physiology were examined joint to the degree of recovery after exposure. Fish were exposed to 142 microg/L (1/100 LC(50)-96 h) of tricyclazole for 7 (Exp.1) and 14 days (Exp.

Preliminary acute toxicity test was carried out in the laboratory and the median lethal concentration (LC50) at 96 h was calculated as 31.33 mg/L (29.

Mg(2+) and Na(+)-K(+) adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) activities were evaluated in gill and muscle tissues at 2, 12, 24, 48, 72, and 96 h of thiobencarb exposure.

We used MASA and three nested MASA methods to detect a point mutation (GGT-->GAT) in rat DHD cells at codon 12 of exon 1 of the k-ras gene. MASA allowed us to detect one k-ras mutated cell on a background of 10(7) normal cells.

Glutathione content (GSx, GSH, GSSG), glutathione reductase (GR) and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (gamma-GT) activities were determined in the liver and muscle tissues of dead and surviving (intoxicated) animals and compared to control values (non-exposed eels).

In vivo assays were conducted under a constant flow-through system of thiobencarb-contaminated water (1/60 LC(50) 96 h=0.22 ppm for 96 h) followed by a recovery period in clean water (192 h more).
