Macular Neovascularization Type Influence on Anti-VEGF Intravitreal Therapy Outcomes in Age-Related Macular Degeneration.

Purpose: To evaluate the influence of macular neovascularization (MNV) lesion type on 12-month clinical outcomes in treatment-naive eyes with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) treated with anti-VEGF drugs nationwide.

Design: Multicenter national nAMD database observational study.

Subjects: One thousand six hundred six treatment-naive nAMD eyes (1330 patients) undergoing anti-VEGF therapy for 12 months nationwide.

Impact of the COVID-19 Lockdown on Ophthalmological Assistance in the Emergency Department at a Spanish Primary Level Hospital.

Purpose: To analyze the changes in ophthalmological emergencies during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown at a Spanish primary level hospital.

Methods: The number and type of emergencies attended in the emergency department of Hospital Universitario del Henares between March 10 and August 31, 2020 (COVID-19 cohort) were compared with the emergencies attended during the same period of 2019 (pre-COVID-19 cohort). Data on the diagnosis, patient age, and gender was retrospectively collected from the electronic medical records of the hospital.

Survival analysis of time to SARS-CoV-2 PCR negativisation to optimise PCR prescription in health workers: the Henares COVID-19 healthcare workers cohort study.

Objectives: Reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) is considered the gold standard in diagnosing COVID-19. Infected healthcare workers do not go back to work until RT-PCR has demonstrated that the virus is no longer present in the upper respiratory tract. The aim of this study is to determine the most efficient time to perform RT-PCR prior to healthcare workers' reincorporation.

Ocular involvement in a patient with Sweet syndrome: report of a case and review of the literature.

The case presented is a 66-year-old woman who attended the emergency department due to skin lesions on the limbs, facial oedema, and eye redness accompanied by haemorrhagic conjunctivitis. The symptoms resolved after one week of systemic steroid treatment. Skin biopsy confirmed Sweet syndrome.

Disc Configuration as a Risk and Prognostic Factor in NAION: The Impact of Cup to Disc Ratio, Disc Diameter, and Crowding Index.

: The presence of the so called disc at risk (a small disc with no cupping) has been considered the main risk factor for the development of non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). However its role as a prognostic factor has not been studied. Our aim was to determine the weight of disc configuration as a risk and a prognostic factor for NAION.

Bilateral intraocular lens subluxation secondary to haptic angulation.

An 82-year-old man had uneventful phacoemulsification with bilateral implantation of a hydrophilic acrylic, single-piece intraocular lens (IOL) (ACR6D SE, Laboratoires Cornéal). Five years later, simultaneous and bilateral IOL subluxations occurred. In both eyes, the subluxation was situated on the side of one haptic that had moved forward (temporal area in the right eye and superior area in the left eye).

[Amniotic membrane transplantation with fibrin glue as treatment of refractory conjunctivochalasis].

Case Report: A 63-year-old man with bilateral conjunctivochalasis presented with tearing, irritation, foreign body sensation and a delayed fluorescein clearance test. After no symptomatic improvement with topical treatment, surgery was carried out, with amniotic membrane transplantation and fibrin sealant.

Discussion: Conjunctivochalasis is a frequent disorder that shares symptoms with dry eye syndrome.

Rebound tonometer compared with goldmann tonometer in normal and pathologic corneas.

Purpose: To compare the intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements obtained with the rebound tonometer (RT) and the Goldmann handheld tonometer (GT) in normal and altered corneas.

Methods: A total of 208 normal corneas and 50 corneas with pathologies were included in this prospective study. All measurements were randomly obtained by 1 observer.

Optical coherence tomography to monitor photodynamic therapy in pathological myopia.

Aim: To evaluate the role of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in determining choroidal neovascularisation (CNV) activity before and after photodynamic therapy (PDT) in patients with pathological myopia.

Methods: 33 patients (33 eyes) with pathological myopia and being treated with PDT were included. Every 3 months all patients were evaluated and presence or absence of leakage on fluorescein angiography, presence of intraretinal or subretinal fluid on OCT, and macular and choroidal neovascular complex thickness on OCT, were determined at each examination.

[Silicone oil hypotonic maculopathy treatment].

Case Report: We report a case of a man who developed hypotonic maculopathy after vitreoretinal surgery for anterior proliferative vitreoretinopathy. After an injection of intravitreal triamcinolone, the ocular pressure did not increase, therefore silicone oil was injected. After this, the visual acuity increased and the choroidal and retinal folds regressed.

[Central serous chorioretinopathy as a complication of epitheliopathy under treatment with glucocorticoids].

Case Report: We present cases of two patients who were examined in our department with the diagnosis of epitheliopathy following treatment with oral and topical glucocorticoids. They were referred because of loss of visual acuity. The ophthalmic examination established the diagnosis of central serous chorioretinopathy and it was decided to stop treatment with glucocorticoids.

Surgical treatment of a dislocated intraocular lens-capsular bag-capsular tension ring complex.

We describe a surgical technique for managing late dislocation of an intraocular lens-capsular bag-capsular tension ring (IOL-CB-CTR) complex. Two 10-0 polypropylene sutures are placed transsclerally over and under the CTR through the anterior and posterior capsules to capture the CTR, which then is retracted and sutured through the sclera. The same maneuver is performed 180 degrees away.

Extraction of endocapsular tension ring after phacoemulsification in eyes with pseudoexfoliation.

Purpose: To describe an easy and effective surgical technique for removing the endocapsular tension ring (CTR) after phacoemulsification.

Design: New surgical technique.

Methods: One 10-0 polypropylene suture needle is passed through the hole at one end of the CTR.

Clinical factors related to the frequency and intensity of glistenings in AcrySof intraocular lenses.

Purpose: To assess the frequency of glistenings in eyes that had phacoemulsification and implantation of AcrySof intraocular lenses (IOLs) (Alcon) and to evaluate the clinical factors related to the glistenings.

Setting: Departamento de Oftalmología, Clínica Universitaria, Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona, Spain.

Methods: A consecutive series of 129 eyes of 94 patients was prospectively evaluated.

[Prevalence and risk factors of pseudoexfoliation syndrome in institutionalized geriatric patients in Navarra].

Purpose: To establish the prevalence of pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PSX) in an institutionalized geriatric population in Navarra. To study the risk factors for the development of this disease.

Material And Methods: 268 nursing home residents were studied, with a mean age of 81 years.
