Purpose: Trans and gender diverse (TGD) people are one of the world's most marginalized populations. Current evidence indicates that ostracism faced by these communities leads to multiple adverse conditions. The synergistic impact of these conditions -a syndemic-has been well established among other marginalized populations.

Two structurally unrelated small molecule chemotypes, represented by compounds PAV-617 and PAV-951, with antiviral activity in cell culture against Mpox virus (formerly known as monkeypox virus) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) respectively, were studied for anti-cancer efficacy. Each exhibited apparent pan-cancer cytotoxicity with reasonable pharmacokinetics. Non-toxicity is demonstrated in a non-cancer cell line and in mice at doses achieving drug exposure at active concentrations.

Background: Desmoid tumors can cause morbidity due to local invasion, potentially being fatal when fast growth compromises vital structures. In this context, a timely treatment response is required. This study aims to compare the activity of sorafenib and anthracycline-containing regimens during the first year of treatment.

Introduction: Biomarker-informed criteria were proposed for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) by the National Institute on Aging and the Alzheimer's Association (NIA-AA) in 2011; however, the adequacy of this criteria has not been sufficiently evaluated.

Methods: ReDeMa () is a regional cohort of patients attending memory and neurology clinics. Core cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers were obtained, NIA-AA diagnostic criteria were considered, and changes in diagnosis and management were evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • - TGD individuals face significant barriers to substance use treatment, including provider mistreatment and a lack of training among treatment professionals on TGD health issues, which affects their ability to provide affirming care.
  • - A study conducted with substance use treatment providers in Rhode Island revealed that many lacked exposure to TGD people and faced structural challenges, such as non-inclusive intake forms, which hindered effective care.
  • - While some professionals recognized the limitations of a "gender blind" approach to treatment, there was a consensus that creating a more inclusive and affirming environment in treatment settings is crucial for better serving TGD clients.

Introduction: Basal cardiovascular risk assessment in cardio-oncology is essential. Integrating clinical information, ECG and transthoracic echocardiogram can identify concealed inherited cardiomyopathies (ICMPs) with potential added risk of cardiotoxicity. We aimed to evaluate the impact of our Cardio-Oncology Unit design in detecting concealed ICMPs.

Prussian blue (PB) is a coordination polymer based on the FeCNFe sequence. It is an FDA-approved drug, intended for oral use at the acidic pH of the stomach and of most of the intestine track. However, based on FDA approval, a huge number of papers proposed the use of PB nanoparticles (PBnp) under "physiological conditions", meaning pH buffered at 7.

Objective: Identifying prognostic factors and evaluating the impact of adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with sex cord stromal tumors (SCST) is crucial. In this study, we aimed to address these challenges.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of data from 13 centers of the French Rare malignant gynecological tumors (TMRG) network.

Background: Fiber optic dosimetry (FOD) has emerged as a useful technique that can be used in those cases when intracavitary, real time, high spatial resolution dose assessment is required. Among the several factors characterizing a dosimeter, angular response of FOD probes has to be assessed in order to consider possible clinical application.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to characterize the angular response of a FOD probe based on a cylindrical shaped YVO :Eu scintillator under irradiation with a 6 MV photon beam generated by a linear accelerator (LINAC).

This paper discusses the feasibility of a novel strategy based on the combination of bioprinting nano-doping technology and laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma time-of-flight mass spectrometry analysis for the preparation and characterization of gelatin-based multi-element calibration standards suitable for quantitative imaging. To achieve this, lanthanide up-conversion nanoparticles were added to a gelatin matrix to produce the bioprinted calibration standards. The features of this bioprinting approach were compared with manual cryosectioning standard preparation, in terms of throughput, between batch repeatability and elemental signal homogeneity at 5 μm spatial resolution.

ATP-Binding Cassette E (ABCE) proteins dissociate cytoplasmic ribosomes after translation terminates, and contribute to ribosome recycling, thus linking translation termination to initiation. This function has been demonstrated to be essential in animals, fungi, and archaea, but remains unexplored in plants. In most species, ABCE is encoded by a single-copy gene; by contrast, has two paralogs, of which seems to conserve the ancestral function.

Tiger moth species vary greatly in the number of clicks they produce and the resultant duty cycle. Signals with higher duty cycles are expected to more effectively interfere with bat sonar. However, little is known about the minimum duty cycle of tiger moth signals for sonar jamming.

Background: Flourishing is considered an optimal state of well-being and is associated with positive psychological outcomes. Although, individual, family, and social factors may either facilitate or impede flourishing, their unique influence on flourishing outcomes is not well-understood among youth.

Objective: Using data from the 2016-2017 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH), this study investigated cross-sectional associations among adverse family experiences (AFE), community safety, family resilience, parental aggravation, and flourishing among youth.

Most studies only describe mental health indicators (anxiety, depression, insomnia, and stress) and the risk factors associated with these indicators during the pandemic (sex, student status, and specific physical symptoms). However, no explanatory studies have been found that assess the impact of variables associated with COVID-19. Against this background, the objective of the study was to evaluate the impact of the fear of catching COVID-19 on the level of anxiety, depression, and insomnia in 947 university students of both sexes (41.

The decrease in levels of lead in air and drinking water over the last 40 years has resulted in an overall decrease in blood lead levels (BLLs). However, there is no known safe level of lead regarding developmental effects in children. This paper maps predicted BLLs of children in France, resulting from a simulated chronic exposure in two steps, with the aim of identifying areas with environmentally overexposed populations.

Article Synopsis
  • Prostate cancer (PCa) remains a significant health challenge due to the lack of effective treatments for advanced stages, with Paclitaxel (PTX) being the first-line chemotherapy option but facing limitations due to hypersensitivity reactions.
  • Researchers developed a new drug formulation by conjugating PTX to a biodegradable nanocarrier called tert-Ser-PTX, which allows for sustained and pH-responsive release of the drug, enhancing its stability in the bloodstream.
  • Preliminary studies show that tert-Ser-PTX not only reduces toxicity compared to traditional PTX but also effectively inhibits tumor growth and spread in mice, indicating its potential as a promising treatment for advanced prostate cancer.
