Disparities in anti-nucleocapsid and anti-spike SARS-CoV-2 antibody prevalence in NYC - April-October 2021.

Purpose: Between April-October 2021, the New York City (NYC) Health Department conducted a serosurvey to assess prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in NYC adults as part of continued COVID-19 surveillance efforts.

Methods: Whole blood specimens were collected from 1,035 adult NYC residents recruited from an annual population-based health surveillance survey. Specimens were tested for the presence of anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (anti-spike) and anti-SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein (anti-nucleocapsid) antibodies.

With a view towards the development of molecular spintronics, non-linear optics, and qubits, a great amount of research effort aims to establish the factors which govern the spin classification of diradicals. Electron spin resonance (ESR) is an indispensable tool for such research. However, in some cases, the mere presence of an ESR spectrum is insufficient to ascertain that the presumed diradical is indeed a triplet state.

Linking multiple serological assays to infer dengue virus infections from paired samples using mixture models.

Dengue virus (DENV) is an increasingly important human pathogen, with already half of the globe's population living in environments with transmission potential. Since only a minority of cases are captured by direct detection methods (RT-PCR or antigen tests), serological assays play an important role in the diagnostic process. However, individual assays can suffer from low sensitivity and specificity and interpreting results from multiple assays remains challenging, particularly because interpretations from multiple assays may differ, creating uncertainty over how to generate finalized interpretations.

Background: Driving pressure is thought to determine the effect of low tidal ventilation on survival in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome. The leading cause of mortality in these patients is non-pulmonary multiorgan dysfunction, which is believed to worsen due to the biological response to mechanical ventilation (biotrauma). Therefore, we aimed to analyze the association between driving pressure, biotrauma, and non-pulmonary multiorgan dysfunction.

Genetic diversity of dengue virus circulating in the Philippines (2014-2019) and comparison with dengue vaccine strains.

Dengue virus has four distinct serotypes and the genetic diversity within each of the four serotypes contribute to its complexity. An important aspect of dengue molecular evolutionary studies has been the dissection of the extent and structure of genetic variation among major genotypes within each serotype. It is important to understand the role of dengue genetic variability and its potential role and impact in the effectiveness of the dengue vaccine.

Objectives: Atypical variants are rare in genetically determined Alzheimer disease (AD). This case describes a patient with Down syndrome-associated Alzheimer disease (DSAD) who presented with symptoms of posterior cortical atrophy (PCA).

Methods: We conducted a clinical and cognitive evaluation, genotyping, determination of AD biomarkers in CSF, structural MRI, [18F]FDG-PET, and tau-PET ([18F]PI2620) scans.

One-Pot Regio- and Diastereoselective Gold-Catalyzed Propargylation of in Situ Activated Chromones and Consecutive Cyclization.

Herein, we report a gold-catalyzed propargylation of chromone derivatives by propargylsilanes. Chromones are synergistically activated by the silylium cation resulting from the gold activation of the propargylsilane. The reaction exclusively occurs at the C2-position of the chromone, and a single diastereoisomer is formed.

A Protocol for Adapting a Mindfulness-Based Intervention with Contingency Management to Reduce Alcohol Misuse Among Latine Emerging Adults.

Emerging adulthood (ages 18-25 years old) is a critical period for the onset of problematic drinking, especially within underserved populations, such as Latine emerging adults. This protocol outlines the adaptation of a Mindfulness-Based Intervention (MBI) incorporating Contingency Management (CM) to address alcohol misuse in Latine young adults, a demographic with limited treatment access and increased vulnerability to substance use disorders. Grounded in Community-Engaged Research (CEnR) principles, this study employs a structured formative development approach to culturally and developmentally adapt a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program.

Tailoring glioblastoma treatment based on longitudinal analysis of post-surgical tumor microenvironment.

Glioblastoma (GBM), an incurable primary brain tumor, typically requires surgical intervention followed by chemoradiation; however, recurrences remain fatal. Our previous work demonstrated that a nanomedicine hydrogel (GemC-LNC) delays recurrence when administered post-surgery. However, tumor debulking also triggers time-dependent immune reactions that promote recurrence at the resection cavity borders.

UV/Vis/NIR transmittance spectra T(λ) are often used for the characterization of thin films in both spectrophotometry and spectroscopic ellipsometry. T(λ) are inherently noisy due to noise generated by the measuring equipment and the environment. Nevertheless, film characterizations are usually performed either without denoising T(λ) or by smoothing it, which should limit the characterization accuracy.

Cruelty and its link to injustice in contexts of humiliation have not received to date due attention from experimental psychosocial research. Aiming at filling this gap, this paper presents three studies with increasing degrees of experimental control (N = 1098) that show a dual opponent-process response to being targeted by potentially humiliating actions: while targets appraising more injustice internalize less the devaluation underlying the humiliation experience (thus partially dissolving the so-called "paradox of humiliation", Fernández et al., 2015, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, 41, 976), targets appraising more cruelty internalize more a devalued self-view and feel more humiliated.

Genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation practice patterns: A survey study of the International Pain and Spine Interventional Society.

Introduction: Chronic knee pain often results from degenerative conditions such as knee osteoarthritis (OA) and can worsen after surgical interventions like total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Knee OA affects approximately 86 million individuals globally, leading to decreased function, mobility limitations, and disability. While TKA is a common surgical treatment for refractory knee OA, though up to 20 % of patients experience chronic post-operative knee pain worse than their pre-operative pain.

Background: Progressive hearing loss is a common problem in the human population with no effective therapeutics currently available. However, it has a strong genetic contribution, and investigating the genes and regulatory interactions underlying hearing loss offers the possibility of identifying therapeutic candidates. Mutations in regulatory genes are particularly useful for this, and an example is the microRNA miR-96, a post-transcriptional regulator which controls hair cell maturation.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of the CTH intervention on total drug overdose deaths and overdose deaths involving combinations of opioids with psychostimulants or benzodiazepines.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This randomized clinical trial was a parallel-arm, multisite, community-randomized, open, and waitlisted controlled comparison trial of communities in 4 US states between 2020 and 2023.

Transient nicotine exposure in early adolescent male mice freezes their dopamine circuits in an immature state.

How nicotine acts on developing neurocircuitry in adolescence to promote later addiction vulnerability remains largely unknown, but may hold the key for informing more effective intervention efforts. We found transient nicotine exposure in early adolescent (PND 21-28) male mice was sufficient to produce a marked vulnerability to nicotine in adulthood (PND 60 + ), associated with disrupted functional connectivity in dopaminergic circuits. These mice showed persistent adolescent-like behavioral and physiological responses to nicotine, suggesting that nicotine exposure in adolescence prolongs an immature, imbalanced state in the function of these circuits.
