The Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE) is a hybrid algorithm that combines quantum and classical computing to determine the ground-state energy of molecular systems. Paddy fields are a major anthropogenic source of global methane (CH) emissions, a powerful greenhouse gas (GHG). This study aimed at gaining insights of different organic and inorganic conductive materials (CMs) - biochar, fungal melanin, and magnetite - to mitigate CH emissions, and on their influence on key microbial populations, mimicking the postharvest season throughout the degradation of rice straw in microcosms under anaerobic conditions encompassing postharvest paddy rice soils from the Ebro Delta, Spain. Results showed that fungal melanin was the most effective CM, significantly reducing CH emissions by 29 %, while biochar amendment also reduced emissions by 10 %.

A COmpact Spectrometer for Measurements Of Neutrons at the ASDEX Upgrade Tokamak (COSMONAUT) has been developed for spectroscopy measurements of the 2.45 MeV neutron emission from deuterium plasmas at the ASDEX Upgrade. The instrument is based on a CLYC-7 inorganic scintillator, whereby the detection of fusion neutrons occurs via their interaction with 35Cl nuclei in the detector crystal, leading to a peak in the detector response function and providing excellent neutron/gamma-ray discrimination capabilities.

Given the increasing pressure on water bodies, it is imperative to explore sustainable methodologies for wastewater treatment and reuse. The simultaneous presence of multiples contaminants in complex wastewater, such as the liquid effluents from biogas plants, can compromise biological treatment effectiveness for reclaiming water.
