Armed violence in Manguinhos/RJ, Brazil: health and daily life of health and education workers.

The article presents the results of qualitative action research on armed violence with health and education professionals and territorial community services in Manguinhos, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is justified by the urgent nature of this violence in the territory and aims to identify its impacts on their health and work, coping, protection, and care strategies. The effects of armed violence on health and education professionals and the territory are discussed through interviews and focus groups with participant observation, identifying some of its transversalities, such as the Brazilian State racist public security policy based on a warlike logic of confrontation with groups with armed control of the territory, which makes life precarious by exposing residents and workers to constant risks, weakening the community fabric and preventing full access to health and education.

"In the middle of the crossfire": considerations about the armed violence impacts in Primary Health Care in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The paper addresses the impacts of armed violence, based on Primary Health Care, in a neighborhood in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is a qualitative exploratory study developed in two services aiming to identify the main types of violence, their impacts and the strategies used to cope with the phenomenon. The production of information included data collection in the service records, conducting semi-structured interviews, focus groups and feedback seminar.

Non-fatal gunshot wounds among military police in Rio de Janeiro: health as a field of emergency against the naturalization of violence.

This article discusses health problems due to firearm injuries suffered on duty military police officers in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro (RJ). Medical records analysis was con ducted referring to military police officers who were treated at the Military Police's Central Hos pital (MPCH) due to gunshot wounds from June 2015 to December 2017 according to professional profile, the characteristics of the event and the le sion, the spatial distribution of the incidents in volving gunshot wounds, and the healthcare units involved in their care. Firearms injured four hun dred seventy-five military police officers: 98.

Discourses about mental health demands of young offenders serving detention measure in juvenile correctional centers in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This paper aims to analyze the discursive conceptions of what is considered mental health demand of young offenders serving detention measure in juvenile correctional centers in Rio de Janeiro. Nine interviews were conducted with the mental health professionals of these centers, and the results were discussed with the support of Fairclough's critical discourse analysis. Four discursive groups were identified: the first shows intertextuality with the psychiatric discourse; the second, with the Psychiatric Reform; the third, with the discourse of social determinants; and the fourth, with institutional discourses about adolescents' misbehavior.

The marks of gunshot wounds to the face.

Introduction: This article deals with the occurrence of health problems due to gunshot wounds to the face among military police officers, in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, who were submitted to surgery at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology Clinic of Hospital Central da Polícia Militar.

Objective: To identify the profile of patients submitted to surgery as a result of gunshot wounds, the anatomical distribution of maxillofacial fractures, the identified sequelae and complications, the health specialties involved in the rehabilitation of these patients, and to discuss the social, emotional and work performance-related effects of work among these subjects.

Methods: A retrospective epidemiological study was carried out based on secondary data from military police officers who were submitted to surgery at Hospital Central da Polícia Militar due to gunshot wounds from June 2003 to December 2017.

[Meanings of religious work in contexts marked by violence: a study in a complex of shantytowns in Rio de Janeiro].

The purpose of this study is to understand the meanings of religious work in the prevention of violence and in the recovery of people involved in illicit acts in a complex of shantytowns in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The activities of religious entities in the territory, the view of religious leaders regarding their role and that of their church, and the representations of the territory and of the people who commit violent acts were analyzed. Using a qualitative approach, participant observation and interviews of religious leaders and "converts" were conducted between 2010 and 2012.

[Mental health of adolescents in the juvenile detention system: the relationship between the system's staff and external mental health services].

The aim of this article is to analyze how professionals in the mental health teams of the juvenile detention system in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, perceive the relations with the external Network of Psychosocial Care in dealing with mental health issues in adolescents serving time in juvenile detention centers. Nine interviews were held with mental health professionals in the system, and the results were presented with Fairclough's critical discourse analysis as the reference. The results were organized in three parts: the relationship between the juvenile detention system's mental health teams and the external services, difficulties experienced by the teams from the detention centers and the external network's services, and prospects and proposals.

[The role of religion in the promotion of health, in the prevention of violence and in the rehabilitation of individuals involved in criminal activity: literature review].

This is a review of the literature on the role of religion in the promotion of health, the prevention of violence and the rehabilitation of individuals involved in criminal activities. Research was conducted in the Medline through PubMed, Lilacs, Scopus, Social Index with full text, Sociological abstracts and Social services abstracts databases. Twenty-nine essays in Portuguese, English and Spanish were selected and analyzed between 1990 and 2011.
