Objective: A coupling bath of circulating, chilled, degassed water is essential to safe and precise acoustic transmittance during transcranial magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (tMRgFUS) procedures, but the circulating water impairs the critical real-time magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). An iron-based coupling medium (IBCM) using iron oxide nanoparticles previously developed by our group increased the relaxivity of the coupling bath such that it appears to be invisible on MRI compared with degassed water. However, the nanoparticles also reduced the pressure threshold for cavitation.

Flash nanoprecipitation (FNP) is a turbulent mixing process capable of reproducibly producing polymer nanoparticles loaded with active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The nanoparticles produced with this method consist of a hydrophobic core surrounded by a hydrophilic corona. FNP produces nanoparticles with very high loading levels of nonionic hydrophobic APIs.

Purpose: In this study, we examine the effects of a recently developed, iron-based coupling medium (IBCM) on guidance magnetic resonance (MR) scans during transcranial, magnetic-resonance-guided, focused ultrasound surgery (tMRgFUS) procedures. More specifically, this study tests the hypotheses that the use of the IBCM will (a) not adversely affect image quality, (b) remove aliasing from small field-of-view scans, and (c) decouple image quality from the motion state of the coupling fluid.

Methods: An IBCM, whose chemical synthesis and characterization are reported elsewhere, was used as a coupling medium during tMRgFUS procedures on gel phantoms.

Introduction: Heart failure affects 26 million people globally, approximately 900 thousand people in the UK, and is increasing in incidence. Appropriate management of medicines for heart failure at the time of hospital discharge reduces readmissions, improves quality of life and increases survival. The Improving the Safety and Continuity Of Medicines management at Transitions (ISCOMAT) trial tests the effectiveness of the Medicines at Transition Intervention (MaTI), which aims to enhance self-care and increase community pharmacy involvement in the medicines management of heart failure patients.

Background: People with intellectual disability in Chile face individual and collective barriers to social participation. Lack of knowledge about their rights and tools for effective self-advocacy seem to be key elements that need to be improved to facilitate participation.

Method: We present PaísDI, a 16 h long manualised program created by self-advocates in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, with four modules: rights and intellectual disability, leadership in intellectual disability, effective communication and financial considerations of social projects.

Efforts to demonstrate children's ability to report experiencing mixed emotions have typically used an allocentric approach, asking children to report on emotions of other individuals in response to stories or movie clips demonstrating social themes. In contrast, literature examining children's personal experiencing and understanding of their own mixed emotions, typified as an egocentric approach, in nonsocial situations remains underdeveloped. The current study examined the development of children's reported understanding and experience of mixed emotions egocentrically.

Purpose: Acoustic coupling baths, nominally composed of degassed water, play important roles during transcranial focused ultrasound surgery. Introduction: While one controlled trial found that a daily awakening and spontaneous breathing trial (DA-SBT) decreases time on mechanical ventilation (MV), there is a paucity of real-world data surrounding the development, implementation, and impact of DA-SBT protocols. We describe a multidisciplinary process improvement effort in 2, 10-bed medical intensive care units (MICUs) at a 330-bed academic medical center that focused on the development, implementation, and evaluation of a new DA-SBT protocol.

Methods: A DA-SBT protocol, developed using results from a nursing survey literature and available institutional resources, was implemented after extensive clinician education and institution of quality reminders to boost use.

This study outlines the use of mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy combined with principal component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) for the varietal classification of commercial red and white table wines. Three red varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot) and four white varieties (Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier) were sourced from different wine regions in Australia. Wine samples were scanned in transmission on a FOSS WineScan FT 120 from wave numbers 926 to 5012cm(-1).

This paper reports on the development of a rapid and simple method for red wine authenticity confirmation during transport and processing; namely, a wine "fingerprinting" system. When wine is transported between two sites, a sample is taken and a mid-infrared (MIR) spectrum is obtained. One hundred sixty-one (n = 161) samples of three main red wine varieties grown in Australia, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, were collected from six commercial wineries across Australia and scanned in transmission on two MIR spectrophotometers located at The Hardy Wine Company's main site at Reynella, South Australia (Foss WineScan FT 120) (926-5012 cm-1).

Buprenorphine might be an alternative drug to be used in opiate detoxification. Its main advantage is that it carries a low risk for respiratory depression, it gives less euphoria and limited withdrawal effects.
