Background: Scaphoid nonunion can occur in up to 55% of displaced scaphoid fractures. Long-term functional outcomes of this injury are lacking. In addition, no study has published rate of return to active military service after this injury.

Objective: The purpose of this case study is to demonstrate the strength of diagnostic ultrasound in the evaluation of posttraumatic osteolysis of the distal clavicle (PTOC) when compared with radiographs and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Objectives: The purpose of the study was to examine the relationships between cultural variables and diabetes self-care behaviors and glycemic control among African Americans with type 2 diabetes.

Methods: Questionnaires assessing traditional African-American cultural orientation, ethnic identity, self-identification, and diabetes self-care were administered to a sample of 94 low-income, African-American, inner-city hospital outpatients with type 2 diabetes.

Clinical audit and regular morbidity and mortality meetings are required of all units involved in surgical training. Agreed standards of training are under discussion in the face of new examinations and have not at present been formally evaluated. The use of an iodophor-impregnated plastic incise drape in abdominal surgery--a controlled clinical trial.

A prospective randomized clinical trial comparing the use of a new iodophor-impregnated incise drape with a standard skin preparation technique in 1102 patients undergoing abdominal surgical procedures is reported. The effect of the incise drape on wound bacterial contamination and subsequent wound infections is compared. The iodophor-impregnated plastic incise drape reduced the contamination of the wound.
