With the development of technologies, embryos can be produced using oocytes retrieved directly from the ovaries, i.e., regardless of ovulation.

The aims of this study were to determine anti-müllerian hormone (AMH) cutoff values for selecting Gir (Bos taurus indicus) oocyte donors and estimate the impact of using AMH concentrations as a selection criterion. In Exp. 1, Gir heifers (n=120) were sampled for AMH analysis and submitted to ovum pick-up and in vitro embryo production (OPU-IVEP).

Alternatively, distribution such as Poisson can be used to evaluate count traits. This study aimed to compare and discuss the genetic evaluation for oocyte and embryo counts considering Gaussian (untransformed variable - LIN; transformed by logarithm - LOG; transformed by Anscombe - ANS) and Poisson (POI) distributions.

The temperature-humidity index (THI) was used, via random regression models, to investigate the impact of heat stress on genetic parameters and breeding values of oocyte and embryo production in Gir dairy cattle. We evaluated records of total oocytes (TO), viable oocytes (VO), cleaved embryos (CE), and viable embryos (VE) from dairy Gir donors.

The individual factor affects blastocyst/oocyte ratio and determine the existence of outstanding performing animals. The aim of this study was to assess the extent of individual factor effect to IVP efficiency, in a population of Gir oocyte donors.

Multiple displacement amplification (MDA)-based embryo biopsy samples were genotyped, and genomic estimated breeding values (GEBV) for milk yield (305MY) were calculated. The concordance of GEBV and accuracy between embryo biopsies and the respective liveborn were assessed.

High-performance Dairy Gir has been systematically selected in Brazil from its arrival. Since the major phenotypic difference between Gir in India and Brazil is a higher milk production in the former, it is speculated that Brazilian Gir was strategically crossed with Holstein or another Bos taurus to improve milk yield.

This technique is commonly used for in-vitro embryo production, but may result in ovarian lesion. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) ameliorate the function of injured tissues, but their use to treat ovarian lesions in cattle has not been established.

Crossbred (Gir × Holstein) lactating dairy cows (n = 136) and heifers (n = 111) were bred after synchronizing ovulations using an estradiol plus progesterone (P4)-based protocol. Corpus luteum (CL) characteristics (area, echotexture, blood flow) were recorded at 48-h intervals from d 12 to 20 following TAI using an ultrasound equipped with color Doppler.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the likelihood of pregnancy of in vitro-produced (IVP) embryos from batches with distinct relative efficiencies. Data were retrospectively analyzed from 605 transvaginal ultrasonic-guided follicle aspiration sessions (OPU) followed by in vitro embryo production (IVEP) and 2456 fresh embryo transfers (ET), performed between 2008 and 2012 in individuals of the Gir (dairy Bos indicus) breed. The OPU and IVEP were performed using standard procedures by a single group of technicians at the same laboratory facility.

Goats (n = 32) received progestagen sponges for 6 days and 200 IU equine chorionic gonadotropin and 30 µg d-cloprostenol were given on Day 5. No difference was found among control (C), 1% protected fatty acid inclusion (C + 1%) or 4% protected fatty acid inclusion (C + 4%) groups, respectively, in estrus (100.
