Effect of α-Terpineol on Chicken Meat Quality during Refrigerated Conditions.

The present study was designed to evaluate the in vitro antimicrobial properties of nine bioactive compounds (BACs). Applying the disc paper and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assays, we found that the BACs with the widest spectrum of in vitro antibacterial activity against the studied bacteria were carvacrol and α-terpineol (αTPN). Subsequently, αTPN was selected and applied at different concentrations into the fresh minced chicken meat.

Differences between populations of Spinturnix myoti (Acari: Mesostigmata) in breeding and non-breeding colonies of Myotis myotis (Chiroptera) in central Europe: the effect of roost type.

We studied variations in the abundance of parasitic spinturnicid mites in relation to the gender, age and body condition of bats living in different habitats. Populations of Spinturnix myoti Kolenati, 1856 (Acari: Spinturnicidae), an ectoparasite of the bat Myotis myotis (Borkhausen) (Mammalia: Chiroptera), were investigated in two types of roosts differing in microclimatic conditions: caves (low temperature and high humidity) and attics (high temperature and low humidity). Our data suggest that bats from cave nursery colonies harbour more parasites than those from attic colonies, irrespective of host sex or age.

[Knowledge of the mites of the family Spinturnicidae (Acari: Mesostigmata) in Poland].

This paper presents a checklist of the mites of the family Spinturnicidae set on the basis of the whole Polish literature review. The checklist is supplemented with new data about bat hosts and localities in Poland.

[Infectious complications of primary osteosynthesis in aged patients].

In respect of iatrogenic infections the elderly patients are to be considered as endangered. Modern traumatology increases this danger in consequence of the foreign materials placed in the wounds. The role of the antibiotic and chemotherapeutic prophylaxis is of utmost importance.
