Objective: There are a handful of studies investigating peri-ictal headache (PIH) and its clinical associations in patients with idiopathic/genetic epilepsies (I/GE). This multi-center study aimed to investigate PIH, which is an ignored comorbid condition in patients with I/GE, by headache experts and epileptologists working together.

Methods: The data were collected from a cross-sectional large study, using two structured questionnaires for headache and epilepsy features, fulfilled by neurologists.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the relationships between tooth loss and factors like skeletal bone mass, years since menopause, education, smoking, calcium intake, and pregnancy in postmenopausal osteoporotic women in Turkey, involving 1,171 participants aged 40-86.
  • Participants were divided into three groups based on the number of remaining teeth, with significant differences observed in educational levels and body mass index, and lower dietary calcium intake and bone density in women with fewer teeth.
  • Findings indicated that women with no teeth (group 1) had the worst lumbar bone mineral density and content compared to those with some teeth, with those having more than ten teeth (group 3) showing the highest educational levels and smoking

The present study was designed to test if the serum cytokines (interleukin, or IL-1beta, -2, -2r, -6, -6r, -8, and -10, and tumor necrosis factor alpha, or TNF-alpha) and osteocalcin levels were different between 50 osteoporotic and 30 postmenopausal nonosteoporotic women and to evaluate the efficacy of calcitonin therapy during 6 months on serum cytokines and osteocalcin levels in postmenopausal osteoporotic women. In our study, serum levels of osteocalcin, TNF-alpha, IL-2, and IL-8 were significantly higher in the patient group (P < 0.05), whereas serum levels of IL-10 and IL-6r were significantly lower in the patient group (P < 0.

The physiologic role of calcitonin in mineral and bone homeostasis is not very well understood. Very few longitudinal studies have reported the effects of calcitonin therapy on trace minerals in postmenopausal osteoporosis despite the documented involvement of trace minerals in normal skeletal metabolism. Several trace minerals, particularly magnesium (Mg) and zinc (Zn), essential for organic bone matrix synthesis have been known for at least three decades.
