Introduction: Despite progress in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) treatment, challenges persist in medication adherence due to side effects and costs. Precision nutrition, particularly adjusting fatty acid intake, offers a cost-effective strategy for enhancing SLE management. Prior research, including our own, indicates that increased consumption of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) correlates with improved outcomes in SLE patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the impact of tapering off chronic opioid use on pain-related healthcare utilization, including emergency department visits and hospitalizations.
  • Conducted from 2015-2019 with over 47,000 adult patients, the research found that tapering opioids led to more emergency visits and hospitalizations but fewer primary care visits related to pain.
  • Overall, the findings suggest that while tapering may be intended to reduce opioid use, it could lead to an increase in acute pain-related healthcare needs.

Importance: Acute back pain is a common reason for primary care visits and often results in low-value spinal imaging.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of a standardized patient-delivered intervention on rates of low-value spinal imaging among primary care patients with acute low back pain.

Design, Setting, And Participants: In this randomized clinical trial, physicians or advanced practice clinicians were recruited from March 22 to August 5, 2021, from 10 adult primary care or urgent care clinics in Sacramento, California.

Ménière's Disease (MD) is a disease that may be difficult to diagnose and manage. Our UK survey showed variability in the practice of UK Otolaryngology consultants. We hence surveyed Otolaryngology consultants internationally, to assess their confidence levels in diagnosing MD, their use of the AAO-HNS guidelines and current diagnostic and treatment modalities.

Beef raised using rotational grazing practices on biodiverse pastures offers potential benefits to animal and environmental health and can improve the nutrient density of meat to favor human health. However, many cattle producers contend with the seasonal unavailability of fresh forage, necessitating the utilization of supplementary feeds or indoor feeding. The objective of this study was to profile secondary metabolites and fatty acids in grass-finished beef supplemented with different feeds (4.

Article Synopsis
  • A study explored the effects of resistance training with neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES-RT) on increasing lean mass in the lower limbs of individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI), to see if adding protein supplementation would enhance these results.
  • Fifteen participants completed a 12-week trial, with one group receiving protein supplements alongside NMES-RT, while the other underwent NMES-RT alone, resulting in notable increases in thigh lean mass for the protein group.
  • Both groups showed similar improvements in fasting insulin levels and insulin resistance, suggesting that NMES-RT is effective for increasing muscle mass, and protein supplementation can amplify these benefits, warranting further full-scale research.

To analyze trends in error publication in the top () journals. A retrospective bibliometric analysis utilizing journal-specific search engines of the top 30 journals (by impact factor) were queried for "errata OR erratum OR corrigenda OR corrigendum OR correction OR corrections," utilizing errors published between 2000 and 2023. Corrections were classified into "erratum" for errors originating from the journal and "corrigendum" for errors originating from the author.

Objectives: The development of venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common complication following spinal cord injury (SCI) and brain injury (BI), leading to significant morbidity and mortality. The purpose of this study was to explore the incidence of VTE in patients with the dual diagnosis (DD) of SCI and concomitant BI using ultrasonography.

Design: Retrospective study.

People with spinal cord injury (SCI) are at greater risk of developing obesity and related co-morbidities than those without SCI. The objectives of this systematic review were to examine the effectiveness of weight management interventions for people with SCI and to synthesize the experiences of people involved with SCI weight management (e.g.

Background: Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) controls the biophysical organization of plasma membrane sphingolipid/cholesterol-enriched lipid rafts to exert anti-inflammatory effects, particularly in lymphocytes. However, the impact of DHA on the spatial arrangement of alveolar macrophage lipid rafts and inflammation is unknown.

Objectives: The primary objective was to determine how DHA controls lipid raft organization and function of alveolar macrophages.

Context: Health plan disenrollment may disrupt chronic or preventive care for patients prescribed long-term opioid therapy (LTOT).

Purpose: To assess whether overdose events in patients prescribed LTOT are associated with subsequent health plan disenrollment.

Design: Retrospective cohort study.

Organic-inorganic organohalide hybrid solids have garnered significant attention due to their unique structural diversity, desirable electronic structures, and excellent optoelectronic properties. Here, we investigate the mechanical properties of a homologous series of 2D copper bromide hybrids (ACuBr, ACuBr) through nanoindentation to analyze the contribution of organic interlayer interactions to bulk mechanical response. We identify a direct correlation between the identity of the organic spacer and the bulk mechanical response, where stronger bonding interactions in the organic interlayer resulted in increased hardness and elasticity.

Background: Elevated blood pressure (BP) is a major contributor to cardiovascular disease in womens; diet and sedentary time (ST) are modifiable lifestyle factors thought to influence BP.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine 2 diet-quality measures and ST in relation to BP among parous womens.

Methods: This cross-sectional analysis uses data from 677 womens (age 25-55 y) enrolled in the Pregnancy Outcomes and Community Health (POUCH) Study and followed up in the POUCHmoms study 7-15 y after delivery (2011 and 2014).

Grass-finished beef (GFB) can provide beneficial bioactive compounds to healthy diets, including omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (-3 PUFAs), conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and secondary bioactive compounds, such as phytochemicals. The objective of this study was to compare fatty acids (FAs), micronutrients, and phytochemicals of beef fed a biodiverse pasture (GRASS), a total mixed ration (GRAIN), or a total mixed ration with 5% grapeseed extract (GRAPE). This was a two-year study involving fifty-four Red Angus steers ( = 54).

Importance: A core component of delivering care of head and neck diseases is an adequate workforce. The World Health Organization report, Multi-Country Assessment of National Capacity to Provide Hearing Care, captured primary workforce estimates from 68 member states in 2012, noting that response rates were a limitation and that updated more comprehensive data are needed.

Objective: To establish comprehensive workforce metrics for global otolaryngology-head and neck surgery (OHNS) with updated data from more countries/territories.

Heterogeneous ice nucleation activity is affected by aerosol particle composition, crystallinity, pore size, and surface area. However, these surface properties are not well understood, regarding how they act to promote ice nucleation and growth to form ice clouds. Therefore, synthesized materials for which surface properties can be tuned were examined in immersion freezing mode in this study.

We tested the hypothesis that vitamin D deficiency (VDD) is associated with higher developmental disorder probability in 604 children with perinatal HIV infection (CPHIV, = 199), HIV exposed and uninfected (CHEU, = 196), and HIV unexposed uninfected (CHUU, = 201). Children at 6-18 years old and their adult caregivers were assessed at enrollment, 6, and 12-month follow-ups. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin-D (25OHD) levels in children quantified per the NHANES protocol were used to define VD categories as VDD (25OHD < 20 ng/mL), VD insufficient (VDI, 20 ≤ 25OHD ≤ 25 ng/mL), and VD sufficient (VDS = reference group if 25OHD > 25 ng/mL).
