Purpose: Patients receiving treatment for solid tumours and haematological malignancies, among other acute and chronic health conditions, are highly dependent upon central venous access devices (CVADs) for administering chemotherapy and other complex therapies; thus, CVADs can meaningfully impact their health outcomes and experiences. This systematic review aimed to identify and critique patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) and patient-reported experience measure (PREM) instruments related to CVADs.

Dermoid cysts are common benign ovarian tumours arising from totipotent germ cells. We report a rare case of chemical peritonitis and prolonged fever following laparoscopic salpingo-oophorectomy for torsion of a large ovarian dermoid and discuss the management of this patient with prolonged hospital stay, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory use, repeated drainage of the collection as well as re-laparotomy. The occurrence of this rare condition can be extremely distressing for the patient and treating surgeon alike, as the recommendations for management are limited.

Wildfire emissions are a key contributor of carbonaceous aerosols and trace gases to the atmosphere. Induced by buoyant lifting, smoke plumes can be injected into the free troposphere and lower stratosphere, which by consequence significantly affects the magnitude and distance of their influences on air quality and radiation budget. Background: Hospitalised patients receiving intravenous antimicrobial therapy require a reliable device through which this is delivered. Short peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs) are the default device for antimicrobial therapy but up to half fail before therapy completion, leading to suboptimal drug dosing, patient distress from repeated insertions, and increased healthcare costs. This study will investigate the use of long PIVCs to determine if they are more reliable at delivering antimicrobial therapy.

The characterization of the blood groups, antibody profiles, and its distribution pattern among different horse breeds and geographic locations, can be very useful in life-threatening situations where a blood transfusion is needed, and compatibility tests are not readily available. This study estimated the distribution of blood types and antibody profiles in Straight Egyptian Arabian horses from Qatar. Aerosol mass extinction efficiency (MEE) is a key aerosol property used to connect aerosol optical properties with aerosol mass concentrations. Using measurements of smoke obtained during the Fire Influence on Regional to Global Environments and Air Quality (FIREX-AQ) campaign we find that mid-visible smoke MEE can change by a factor of 2-3 between fresh smoke (<2 hr old) and one-day-old smoke. While increases in aerosol size partially explain this trend, changes in the real part of the aerosol refractive index (real(n)) are necessary to provide closure assuming Mie theory.

Emissions that feed atmospheric models are estimated using burned area and fire radiative power (FRP) methods that rely on satellite products. This paper describes a preliminary method for the classification of annealed and unannealed polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) components manufactured using a material extrusion three-dimensional (3D) printing process. PEKK is representative of a class of high-performance thermoplastics that are increasingly employed as feedstocks for use in 3D printing. PEKK components may be used continuously at elevated temperatures, are chemically resistant, and able to withstand large mechanical loads.

Trace gas, particulate matter and deposition data collected in the Athabasca Oil Sands Region (AOSR) from 2000 to 2017 were evaluated as part of a broad scientific programmatic review. Results showed significant spatial patterns and temporal trends across the region. Concentrations of reactive gases were highest near the center of surface oil sands production operations and decreased towards the edges of the monitoring domain by factors of 8, 20, 4 and 3 for SO, NO, HNO and NH, respectively.
