Shen-Wu-Yi-Shen tablets (SWYST) is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription used for treating chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study aims to characterize the constituents in SWYST and evaluate the quality based on the quantification of multiple bioactive components. SWYST samples were analyzed with ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) and a data-processing strategy.

The combination of fluorescence method with paper-based diagnostic device is quite suitable in point-of-care testing (POCT). Herein, we designed a novel hybrid fluorescein-based probe ZN-2 and investigated its fluorescent properties thoroughly in the detection of Zn. In comparison with the fluorescein-based probe ZN-1, ZN-2 displayed better sensitivity, long-wavelength and faster response to Zn within 20 min.

A new paper-based device is fabricated for the detection of copper ions in a biological system, which is inexpensive, fast, and environmentally friendly. Compared with the advanced diagnostics, which have been used widely in well-equipped laboratories, the paper-based devices are affordable in resource-limited settings because basic infrastructure and trained operators are not prerequisites for using such devices. This work presents a novel fluorogenic device for rapid, highly accurate, sensitive, and selective detection of copper ions (Cu) based on fluorescence "turn on" of the probe, which is consisted of fluorescein moieties and oxyalkyl chain on the microfluidic paper-based analytical devices.
