Article Synopsis
  • Al-PILC effectively catalyzes the oxidation of Mn(II) in water, showing that just 1.5 mg/L of chlorine can reduce Mn(II) levels significantly with a proper dosage of Al-PILC.
  • The oxidation rate of Mn(II) is influenced by factors such as catalyst porosity, chlorine and catalyst dosages, pH levels, and temperature, with optimal conditions leading to better results.
  • The research highlights the complex oxidation process involving various mechanisms, including self-catalytic effects, and lays the groundwork for developing more efficient catalysts for similar water treatment applications.

In order to meet the land use requirements of the treated wastewater from high density polyethylene (HDPE) membrane-enclosed anaerobic lagoons, the physical and chemical properties of the wastewater in an HDPE membrane-enclosed anaerobic lagoon were measured. The total nitrogen content (TN) in wastewater treated in membrane-enclosed anaerobic lagoons is 3165 and 1510 mg/L in winter and summer respectively. The wastewater can be used as liquid organic fertilizer, partly replacing chemical fertilizer.

In this study, an extended Anaerobic Digestion Model No.1, which considered the degradation and inhibition properties of furfural, was established and implemented to simulate the anaerobic co-digestion of steam explosion pulping wastewater and cattle manure in batch and semi-continuous modes. Batch and semi-continuous experimental data helped calibrate the new model and recalibrate the parameters related to furfural degradation, respectively.

Objective: In order to find similarity of the protein X in maize with other species we performed a BLASTP search to identify the maize ZmPR-1 family genes.

Methods: We used a BLASTP search to identify the maize ZmPR-1 family genes that may show similarities between the protein X in maize and other species.

Results: A total of 17 ZmPR-1 genes were identified and these genes were unevenly distributed on 8 chromosomes of maize.

The disposal of livestock wastes is an urgent task in China. Compost is highly regarded for its ability to treat livestock wastes and protect arable land. In particular, some problems of livestock manure in cold regions, such as low efficiency because of low environmental temperature in winter, urgently need to be solved.

Liver cancer (HCC) is a common malignant tumor whose incidence is increasing worldwide, but existing chemotherapeutic agents are not ideally effective drugs and have considerable resistance to chemotherapy. Exosome microRNA-103 plays an important role in the proliferation and invasion of liver cancer cells. The purpose of this article is to investigate the role and mechanism of exosome microRNA-103 in hepatocellular carcinoma cell proliferation and invasion.

Anaerobic digestion technology mitigates agricultural organic waste pollution, thereby alleviating the energy crisis. Biochar materials increase the utilisation rate of biomass resources and promote the enrichment and growth of microorganisms. Biochar is an effective exogenous additive that stabilises the anaerobic digestion, improves anaerobic digestion efficiency and gas production.

In this study, Anaerobic Digestion Model No. 1 (ADM1) were modified to simulate anaerobic digestion (AD) process of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and five lignocellulosic substrates, with the goal of predicting the hydrolysis rates of holocellulose fractions in environments with and without lignin inhibition. After model verification, the hydrolysis rate constant of MCC, i.

Background: To investigate the clinical significance of monitoring the coagulation indexes, immune factors and inflammatory factors in pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome (PIH).

Methods: 90 pregnant women with PIH admitted in Weihaiwei People's Hospital of Shandong Province, China from 2016 to 2017 were collected, including 45 cases in mild-moderate group and 45 cases in severe group. Another 45 normal pregnant women at the same period were selected as control group.

Glutathione-S-transferase (GST) genes exist widely in plants and play major role in metabolic detoxification of exogenous chemical substances and oxidative stress. In this study, 14 sunflower GST genes (HaGSTs) were identified based on the sunflower transcriptome database that we had constructed. Full-length cDNA of 14 HaGTSs were isolated from total RNA by reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR).

Northern corn leaf blight (NCLB), caused by the hemibiotrophic fungal pathogen Setosphaeria turcica, is one of the major foliar diseases of maize. The use of resistant cultivars is the most effective, economical, and environmentally friendly means to control NCLB. At present, the molecular mechanisms of maize resistance to S.

A novel hydrophilic nanocomposite additive (PVP-g-MMT), coupling of hydrophilic modifier, self-dispersant, and pore-forming agent (porogen), was synthesized by the surface modification of montmorillonite (MMT) with N-vinylpyrrolidone (NVP) via "grafting from" polymerization in the presence of H(2)O(2)-NH(3)·H(2)O as the initiator, and then the nanocomposite membrane of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and PVP-g-MMT was fabricated by wet phase inversion onto clean glass plates. The existence and dispersion of PVP-g-MMT had a great role on structures, morphologies, surface composition, and chemistry of the as-prepared nanocomposite membranes confirmed by varieties of spectroscopic and microscopic characterization techniques, all of which were the correlated functions of PVP-g-MMT content in casting solution. By using the dead-end filtration of protein aqueous solution, the performance of the membrane was evaluated.

Removal of fluoride from aqueous solution using granular acid-treated bentonite (GHB) was studied by batch and column adsorption experiments. The results of the batch adsorption experiments demonstrated that the maximum fluoride removal was obtained at pH of 4.95 and it took 40 min to attain equilibrium.
