A label-free and selective sensor was established for uranyl ion (UO) detection based on a UO-dependent DNAzyme and liquid crystals (LCs). In the presence of UO, the substrate chains can be cleaved at the rA site by the DNAzyme strands. The cleaved products released from the DNAzyme strand will hybridize with the capture probes that are fixed on the LC sensing substrate to form double strands.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze spinal cord changes and motor function after injuries caused by puncturing with various needle sizes, focusing on spinal neurotoxicity from local anesthetics.
  • 144 SD rats were divided into different groups, and spinal cord punctures were performed using 29G, 25G, and 21G needles; motor functions and spinal pathologies were assessed post-surgery at multiple time points.
  • Results indicated that the 29G needle caused minimal spinal cord damage, while the 21G needle led to significant motor and electrophysiological changes, suggesting that the use of smaller needles may be beneficial for future studies on spinal injuries.
