Optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy enables cellular-level biological imaging in deep tissues. However, acquiring high-quality spatial images without knowing the point spread function (PSF) at multiple depths or physically improving system performance is challenging. We propose an adaptive multi-layer photoacoustic image fusion (AMPIF) approach based on blind deconvolution and registration.

Residue-free and highly efficient techniques for drinking water disinfection are urgently needed. Herein, we report an electrochemical water disinfection system equipped with atomically precise Ag nanoclusters (NCs) as electrode materials. The deployment of these Ag NCs not only provides sufficient electrosorption sites for intelligent microbe enrichment but also ensures high-efficiency dual-mode microbial killing through the in situ electrocatalytic production of residue-free reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the inherent antimicrobial activity of Ag NCs.

Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) is an emerging biomedical imaging technique that combines the advantages of optical and ultrasound imaging, enabling the generation of images with both optical resolution and acoustic penetration depth. By leveraging similar signal acquisition and processing methods, the integration of photoacoustic and ultrasound imaging has introduced a novel hybrid imaging modality suitable for clinical applications. Photoacoustic-ultrasound imaging allows for non-invasive, high-resolution, and deep-penetrating imaging, providing a wealth of image information.

Photoacoustic dermoscopy (PAD) is an emerging non-invasive imaging technology aids in the diagnosis of dermatological conditions by obtaining optical absorption information of skin tissues. Despite advances in PAD, it remains unclear how to obtain quantitative accuracy of the reconstructed PAD images according to the optical and acoustic properties of multilayered skin, the wavelength and distribution of excitation light, and the detection performance of ultrasound transducers. In this work, a computing method of four-dimensional (4D) spectral-spatial imaging for PAD is developed to enable quantitative analysis and optimization of structural and functional imaging of skin.

The microbiota actively and extensively participates in the regulation of human metabolism, playing a crucial role in the development of metabolic diseases. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), when colonizing gastric epithelial cells, not only induces local tissue inflammation or malignant transformation but also leads to systemic and partial changes in host metabolism.

Quick identification of abnormal molecular metabolism of bone tissues is challenging. Photoacoustic (PA) spectroscopy techniques have great potential in molecular imaging. However, most of them are amplitude-dependent and easily affected by the light deposition, especially for bone tissues with high optical scattering.

Five new chloro-azaphilones, chaetofanixins A-E (1-5), and five known analogs (6-10) were isolated and identified from the hadal trench-derived fungus YP-106. The structure of chaetofanixin E (5) is unique and interesting, bearing a highly rigid 6/6/5/3/5 penta-cyclic ring system, which is first encountered in natural products. The structures of these compounds, including absolute configurations, were determined based on the spectroscopic analysis, electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations, and analysis of biogenetic origins.

A successful pregnancy is a complicated process that builds upon two aspects of the maternal immune system that need to be balanced. As one of the indispensable groups of immune cell at the maternal-fetal interface, the decidual gamma/delta (γδ) T cells have attracted research attention in normal pregnancy and miscarriage. However, the role of γδ T cells in fetal growth remains poorly understood.

Background: Photoacoustic dermoscopy (PAD) is a promising branch of photoacoustic microscopy (PAM) that can provide a range of functional and morphologic information for clinical assessment and diagnosis of dermatological conditions. However, most PAM setups are unsuitable for clinical dermatology because their single-scale mode and narrow frequency band result in insufficient imaging depth or poor spatiotemporal resolution when visualizing the internal texture of the skin.

Methods: We developed a multiscale confocal photoacoustic dermoscopy (MC-PAD) with a multifunction opto-sono objective that could achieve high quality dermatological imaging.

Drought and salinity stresses are significant abiotic factors that limit rice yield. Exploring the co-response mechanism to drought and salt stress will be conducive to future rice breeding. A total of 1748 drought and salt co-responsive genes were screened, most of which are enriched in plant hormone signal transduction, protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum, and the MAPK signaling pathways.

Here we propose a systematic approach to reliably visualize the crystal structure evolution of electrode materials of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) during cyclic charge/discharge process. Using anodic Ta-doped LiZnTiO (LZTO) spheres as an example, this protocol describes the doping state modeling by density functional theory (DFT) calculation, their crystal structure parameter determination by X-ray diffraction (XRD) refinement, and formation energy by electron density calculation. This protocol also details the XRD technique and date processing to visualize the cycling reversibility of Ta-doped LZTO.

Impairment of antigen-presenting functions is a key mechanism contributing to sepsis-induced immunosuppression. Recently, γδ T cells have been demonstrated as professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs); however, their role in sepsis remains unknown. In this in vitro study, the APC function of human peripheral γδ T cells was assessed using samples collected from 42 patients with sepsis and 27 age-matched healthy controls.

Retrosplenial cortex (RSC) plays a key role in various cognitive functions. The fiber connectivity of RSC had been reported in rodent and primate studies by tracer injection methods To explore structural and functional connectivity of two sub-regions of RSC, Brodmann area (BA)29 and BA30, we constructed fiber connectivity networks of two sub-regions by diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) tractography based on diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and functional connectivity networks by resting-state functional MRI. The BA29 network showed fiber connections with auditory cortex and functional connections with BA21.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a debilitating psychiatric disease characterized by invasive and persistent fear memories-induced stressful experience, is associated with numerous changes in neuroendocrine function. Here, we investigated whether PTSD-like symptoms are associated with changes in the cholecystokinin (CCK) system in the basolateral amygdala. We developed an animal model of PTSD using multiple foot shocks at 1.

Wen-Dan Decoction (WDD), a formula of traditional Chinese medicine, has been clinically used for treating insomnia for approximately 800 years. However, the therapeutic mechanisms of WDD remain unclear. Orexin-A plays a key role in the sleep-wake cycle, while leptin function is opposite to orexin-A.

We report a pyrosequencing method for detecting a short amelogenin fragment to aid the gender identification. The PCR products (44/45 bp), including primers and target sequence (4/5 bp) consisting of three point mutations and one indel mutation, were sequenced by the pyrosequencing method. 100 randomly chosen DNA samples of healthy donors were analyzed with this method, and all of them were correctly typed.

Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), which have relatively low mutation rates and can be genotyped after PCR with shorter amplicons compared with short tandem repeats (STRs), are being considered as potentially useful markers in forensic DNA analysis. Those SNPs with high heterozygosity and low Fst (F-statistics) in human populations are described as individual identification SNPs, which perform the same function as STRs used in forensic routine work. In the present study, we developed a multiplex typing method for analyzing 44 selected individual identification SNPs simultaneously by using multiplex PCR reaction in association with fluorescent labeled single base extension (SBE) technique.
