Chaohu Lake is the fifth largest freshwater lake in China that meets the needs of surrounding industries for water, tourism, and flood storage, making it important for the socio-economic development and modernization of Anhui Province. As an important ecological wetland in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, many rare bird habitats are present along the coast of Chaohu Lake. Therefore, it is eco-economically important to study antibiotic pollution in Chaohu Lake.

Minimally invasive surgery has transformed the management of complex procedures, offering reduced postoperative pain, faster recovery time, and improved cosmetic outcomes. Despite the growing use of minimally invasive techniques, literature specifically addressing single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) for combined hemicolectomy and cholecystectomy is limited. This report seeks to fill this gap by detailing the successful management of a patient case through a single-incision combined laparoscopic right hemicolectomy and cholecystectomy.

Article Synopsis
  • Asian American cancer patients often encounter barriers to receiving cancer care, and there's a lack of understanding about their specific navigational needs.
  • A pilot study was conducted in Northern California, providing culturally- and linguistically-appropriate support to Asian American adults diagnosed with colorectal, liver, or lung cancer through patient navigators for 6 months.
  • While participants appreciated the program and reported completing standard cancer treatment, they experienced a lower quality of life compared to the general cancer population, indicating a need for further research on improving care quality for this group.

Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a mature procedure recommended for correcting knee osteoarthritis deformity, relieving pain, and restoring normal biomechanics. Although TKA is a successful and cost-effective procedure, patient dissatisfaction is as high as 50%. Knee pain after TKA is a significant cause of patient dissatisfaction; the most common location for residual pain is the anterior region.

Background: Cancer is the leading cause of death among Asian Americans, who often face barriers to cancer care. Cancer supportive care needs among Asian Americans remain understudied.

Aims: We examined cancer supportive care needs and participant factors correlated with these needs, identified profiles of supportive care needs, and examined whether needs profiles are associated with quality of life among Asian American adults.

Adaptation to hypoxia promotes fracture healing. However, the underlying molecular mechanism remains unknown. Increasing evidence has indicated that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play crucial roles in several diseases, including fracture healing.

Article Synopsis
  • Cancer is the leading cause of death for Asian Americans, yet there’s limited research on their supportive care needs during treatment for colorectal, liver, or lung cancer.
  • This study involved 24 Asian American cancer patients, primarily older individuals with limited English proficiency, who received support from a patient navigator over six months, assessing their needs through surveys.
  • Key findings revealed that participants prioritized needs for cancer information, nutrition, language assistance, and increasingly sought mental health resources and healthcare access over time.

Preferentially expressed antigen in melanoma (PRAME) has shown promising utility in distinguishing benign melanocytic lesions from melanomas, but knowledge of its expression pattern in acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM) and acral nevi (ANs) is limited. Immunohistochemical expression of PRAME was examined in 75 ALMs and 34 ANs. The clinical and histopathologic characteristics of patients with ALM were collected.

The nonlinear dynamical equations are established for the double layered viscoelastic nanoplates (DLNP) subjected to in-plane excitation based on the nonlocal theory and von Kármán large deformation theory. The extended high dimensional homoclinic Melnikov method is employed to study the homoclinic phenomena and chaotic motions for the parametrically excited DLNP system. The criteria for the homoclinic transverse intersection for both the asynchronous and synchronous buckling cases are proposed.

Fracture-dislocation of the lower cervical spine is a severe traumatic lesion, most frequently resulting in tetraplegia. Treatment is usually painful and time consuming. This retrospective study evaluated the clinical curative effect of immediate reduction under general anesthesia and single-staged anteroposterior spinal reconstruction for fracture-dislocation of the lower cervical spine.

The method of reverberation ray matrix is extended to investigate the transient wave propagation and early short time transient responses of the ring stiffened laminated composite cylindrical shells subjected to impact loads. The ring stiffened laminated cylindrical shells are modeled as the continuous coupling systems between the vibration of the un-stiffened laminated cylindrical shell and the motion of the curved beams. The dynamic models of the laminated cylindrical shell and curved beams in the Laplace phase space are established on the basis of the first order shear deformation theory.

Femtosecond time-resolved fluorescence spectra technique based on non-collinear optical parametric amplification is a new method for ultrafast spectroscopy research In the present report, the authors discuss the dynamic range for amplifying fluorescence. The supercontinuum seed can be amplified linearly to its transient intensity. Due to large amplification ratio up to 10(7), small instability in pump pulse energy produces large fluctuation in final output amplitude.

Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is an important therapy for the treatment of various late-stage knee diseases. However, it has been observed that patients have lower hemoglobin (HB) counts postoperatively, which are significantly inconsistent with the measured blood loss. Although the concept of hidden blood loss has been presented in 2000, very little clinical attention has been paid since then.

The objective of this study was to select factors related to the prognosis and curative effect for posterolateral fusion (PLF) of lumbar low-grade isthmic spondylolisthesis (LGIS). Of 125 patients who accepted PLF treatment, 119 obtained solid union in this prospective study. Statistical analysis was used to evaluate factors related to the prognosis and curative effect.

Objective: To study the effect of prosthetic replacement in treatment of femoral neck fractures on the hemiplegia side in the elderly.

Methods: From May 1990 to May 2000, 189 elderly patients with femoral neck fractures were treated with prosthetic replacement in my hospital. Twenty-nine hemiplegia patients, who suffered from stroke previously, had Garden type III and type IV femoral neck fractures on the hemiplegia side.
