Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess insulin secretion patterns during pregnancy and their link to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).
  • A total of 2,432 pregnant women were analyzed, revealing that 30.3% had GDM, with distinct insulin secretion patterns identified: type I (early peak) and type II (delayed peak).
  • Delayed insulin secretion (type II) was found to increase risks of complications like pre-eclampsia and low blood sugar in newborns, highlighting its significance as a marker for adverse pregnancy outcomes.

The present study investigated a novel lysozyme ApLyz from the Chinese oak silkmoth, Antheraea pernyi, for its active expression with N- or C-terminus fused to the yeast cell surface, and the antimicrobial activities of the corresponding expressed lysozymes were evaluated. The bactericidal activity of C-terminal fusion of ApLyz surpassed that of the N-terminal fusion, which revealed the implication of an N-terminal stretch of ApLyz in the bactericidal function based on the structural mobility of this region. Two N-terminal peptides of ApLyz (residues 1-15 and 1-32), which primarily consist of amphiphilic α-helices, exerted similar bactericidal efficacy and had a strong preference for the Gram-negative strains.

Aims/introduction: To assess glycated albumin (GA) as a potential glycemic index in managing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Materials And Methods: Eligible pregnant women were divided into the GDM group with abnormal result on a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and the control (normal) group. GA measurements, Pearson's correlation analysis, multiple logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis were obtained at the follow-up examination of participants in the two groups.

3-Hydroxypropionic acid (3-HP) is a commercially important platform chemical from which a panel of chemicals can be generated. Klebsiella pneumoniae has been regarded as a promising host strain in glycerol-based 3-HP production for its exceptional ability to metabolize glycerol. Since the glycerol dissimilation mechanism governs the carbon flux distribution from glycerol, inducible strong promoters were usually employed to enhance the glycerol consumption and 3-HP production.
