The pilot application of escape rooms as a method to evaluate basic nursing skills: a qualitative study of student experiences.

Background: Escape rooms have become increasingly popular in recent years as teaching tools. However, traditional Chinese education still relies heavily on teacher-led instruction, and there is limited research on the application of escape room-style teaching methods in nursing education. This study initially applied the escape room method to evaluate basic nursing skills and aimed to explore the experiences of undergraduate nursing students participating in escape room-style assessments for basic nursing skills using qualitative interviews.

Predicting major adverse cardiovascular events in angina patients using radiomic features of pericoronary adipose tissue based on CCTA.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate whether radiomic features of pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) derived from coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) can better predict major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with angina pectoris.

Methods: A single-center retrospective study included 239 patients with angina pectoris who underwent coronary CT examinations. Participants were divided into MACE ( = 46) and non-MACE ( = 193) groups based on the occurrence of MACE during follow-up, and further allocated into a training cohort ( = 167) and a validation cohort ( = 72) at a 7:3 ratio.

Development of konjac glucomannan-based active-intelligent emulsion films loaded with different curcumin-metal chelates: Stability, antioxidant, fresh-keeping and freshness detection properties.

The aim of this study was to develop konjac glucomannan (KGM)-based active-intelligent emulsion films loaded with different curcumin-metal chelates, where six types of films were prepared and their corresponding properties were investigated. The FTIR and XRD results showed that curcumin chelated with metal ions successfully. Moreover, curcumin-Ca chelate had the best thermal stability and antioxidant activity with the DPPH and ABTS radical-scavenging activity values of 38.

Predicting the Risk of Loneliness in Children and Adolescents: A Machine Learning Study.

Background: Loneliness is increasingly emerging as a significant public health problem in children and adolescents. Predicting loneliness and finding its risk factors in children and adolescents is lacking and necessary, and would greatly help determine intervention actions.

Objective: This study aimed to find appropriate machine learning techniques to predict loneliness and its associated risk factors among schoolchildren.

Commensal microbe regulation of skin cells in disease.

Human skin is the host to various commensal microbes that constitute a substantial microbial community. The reciprocal communication between these microbial inhabitants and host cells upholds both the morphological and functional attributes of the skin layers, contributing indispensably to microenvironmental and tissue homeostasis. Thus, disruption of the skin barrier or imbalances in the microbial communities can exert profound effects on the behavior of host cells.

Sexually transmitted infections and migration in Uganda: a population-based study.

Objectives: Migration is associated with increased risk of HIV infection in Africa, but evidence about non-HIV sexually transmitted infection (STI) burden among African migrants is limited.

Methods: We used data from the Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevalence Study, a cross-sectional population-based study of chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomoniasis, syphilis and herpes simplex virus type 2 prevalence in southern Uganda, to compare STI prevalence between adults aged 18 and 49 years with and without a recent history of migration. Migration status was determined using household census data, with a recent migration history defined as having moved into one's community of current residence within the last ~18 months.

Objective: Voluntary medical male circumcision (MC) is a critical tool in combination HIV prevention programmes in Africa. Self-reported MC (SrMC) status is used in HIV epidemiological surveys to assess MC coverage but is subject to response bias with limited validation. This study evaluated the utility of SrMC status as a marker of MC as well as self-reported genital lesions for genital ulcer disease (GUD) among Ugandan men.

Obstructive sleep apnea, typically characterized by chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH), is linked to cognitive dysfunction in children. Integration of glutathione disulfide-mediated extraction and capillary electrophoresis for determination of Cd(II) and Pb(II) in edible oils.

A novel method is introduced for extracting and enriching Cd(II) and Pb(II) from edible oils using glutathione disulfide (GSSG) as both an extractant and a phase-separation agent. The ions in the oils were initially extracted into an aqueous solution containing GSSG. After mixing the solution with acetonitrile at the appropriate volume ratio, a new phase formed, resulting in enrichment of the analytes.
