Introduction: Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) is a widely used industrial polymerization material. Current occupational exposure limits (OELs) for GMA in China show significant disparities compared to those established by international regulatory bodies, including the United States, the European Union, and Japan. A comprehensive revision of GMA exposure limits is crucial for ensuring optimal worker protection.

Stable and low-cost field-effect transistor (FET)-based biosensors are vital for the on-site detection of toxic pollutants in environmental monitoring applications. In this study, a tunable aptamer-MXene sensing interface was constructed to develop renewable FET biosensors. This was achieved through the reversible disulfide bond (-S-S-) reaction between the SH-TiCT film and thiolated aptamer.

Background: Food-borne trematodiases (FBTs), mainly encompassing clonorchiasis, fascioliasis, fasciolopsiasis, opisthorchiasis, and paragonimiasis, is a neglected public health problem, particularly in the WHO South-East Asia and the Western Pacific regions. This study evaluates the global, regional, and national disease burden of FBTs from 1990 to 2021 and projects trends to 2030, underscore the need for targeted prevention and control.

Methods: Using the Global Burden of Disease 2021 database, the crude and the age-standardized prevalence rate (ASPR) and age-standardized prevalence disability-adjusted life years rate (ASDR) of FBTs at the global, regional and national level from 1990 to 2021 were described.

Monitoring of mercury ion (Hg) pollution is one of the eternal themes due to its notorious toxicity. Herein, we elaborately designed a novel fluorescent probe N'-((selenophen-2-yl)methylene)Si-rhodamine B hydrazide (Se-SiRH) by integrating 2-formylselenophene with Si-rhodamine B hydrazide. Se-SiRH exhibited an excellent near-infrared response towards Hg in MeOH/PBS solution (1:1, v/v, pH = 7.

We investigated the contaminations of phthalates (PAEs), organophosphate esters (OPEs), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the vegetables and their corresponding soils from 26 plastic greenhouses of Northeast China. PAEs, OPEs, and PAHs in the edible portion of vegetables were in the range of 2620-21800, 115-852, and 32.4-602 ng/g, while the levels of these chemicals in the greenhouse soils were 5770-18800, 196-935, and 109-1600 ng/g, respectively.

Medulloblastoma (MB) is the most common malignant brain tumor in children. Within MB, tumors driven by the Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) pathway represent the most heterogeneous subtype, known as SHH subtype medulloblastoma (SHH-MB). Tenovin-6, a recognized p53 activator, has been demonstrated to inhibit autophagy and modulate sirtuin activity, underscoring its potential as a novel therapeutic agent across various malignancies.

Hydroponics combined with fugacity model was employed to investigate the kinetics of uptake, accumulation, and metabolism of organophosphate esters (OPEs) by japonica rice. The time-dependent process for uptake and accumulation of 5 OPEs and their diester-metabolites in both rice root and shoot fitted well with the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The peak OPE accumulations in rice root and shoot were significantly positively or negatively correlated with their octanol-water partition coefficient (logK) respectively, but not for their apparent accumulation rates.

The number of maize leaves is an important indicator for assessing plant growth and regulating population structure. However, the traditional leaf counting method mainly relies on manual work, which is both time-consuming and straining, while the existing image processing methods have low accuracy and poor adaptability, making it difficult to meet the standards for practical application. To accurately detect the growth status of maize, an improved lightweight YOLOv8 maize leaf detection and counting method was proposed in this study.

Article Synopsis
  • * A new model called phase-noise drive sensitivity (PNDS) is introduced to explain the mechanism behind these effects, revealing how it behaves across different frequencies and its resemblance to noise bandwidth in traditional models.
  • * The research successfully predicts the phase noise for a 10 MHz oscillator under varying supply voltage conditions and identifies key factors, such as the phase modulation of the amplifier and the resonator's frequency effects, that influence the outcomes.

This study describes an adsorption method for the removal of Hg from aquatic environments using sulfhydryl-functionalized TiCT (SH-TiCT). SH-TiCT materials were synthesized through covalent interactions between dithiothreitol and two-dimensional TiCT. The insertion of -SH groups increased the interlayer spacing of TiCT, resulting in a 3-fold increase in the specific surface area of SH-TiCT compared with the original TiCT.

  • Wild rodents in Inner Mongolia and Liaoning Province serve as important carriers of parasites, posing risks of zoonotic transmission to humans and domestic animals.
  • A study captured 486 wild rodents and used PCR analysis to identify their species and the genotypes of parasites they carry.
  • The results showed a 17.4% infection rate among the rodents, with 11 genotypes identified, including two novel ones, illustrating the genetic diversity and prevalence of parasites in these rodent populations.

Plant uptake of organic contaminants generally occurs through either root, gas-phase foliar, or particle-phase foliar uptake. Understanding these pathways is essential for food-system practitioners to reduce human exposures, and to clean contaminated-sites with phytoremediation. Herein, we conducted a field-based experiment using an improved specific exposure chamber to elucidate the uptake pathways of organophosphate esters, phthalates, and polycyclic aromatic compounds, and quantitatively assessed their contributions to organic contaminant accumulations in field-grown rice.

Iodine deficiency results in elevated thyroglobulin (Tg) concentrations, with high iodine Tg being more immunogenic than low iodine Tg. The study investigated the correlation between serum iodine concentration and thyroglobulin autoantibody (TgAb) levels across diverse iodine nutritional statuses as determined by urine iodine concentration (UIC). Demographic information was collected from 1,482 participants through a questionnaire.

Fruit color is an intuitive quality of horticultural crops that can be used as an evaluation criterion for fruit ripening and is an important factor affecting consumers' purchase choices. In this study, a genetic population from the cross of green peel 'Qidong' and purple peel '8 guo' revealed that the purple to green color of eggplant peel is dominant and controlled by a pair of alleles. Bulked segregant analysis (BSA), SNP haplotyping, and fine genetic mapping delimited candidate genes to a 350 kb region of eggplant chromosome 10 flanked by markers KA2381 and CA8828.

  • Heavy metals and metalloids (HMMs) are prevalent in the environment, but their effects on liver health in China haven't been clearly documented.
  • The study analyzed data from over 9,000 Chinese adults to assess the relationship between HMM concentrations in blood and urine and liver function biomarkers like albumin and liver enzymes.
  • Results indicated that certain metals, notably manganese and thallium, could pose a risk to liver health, while selenium might offer protection; the findings suggest a need for greater public health awareness regarding low-level HMM exposure.
