In recent years, with the advancement of medical imaging technology, medical image segmentation has played a key role in assisting diagnosis and treatment planning. Current deep learning-based medical image segmentation methods mainly adopt encoder-decoder architecture design and have received wide attention. However, these methods still have some limitations, including: (1) Existing methods are often influenced by the significant semantic information gap when supplementing features for the decoder.

Background: Dental treatments, especially invasive procedures, often induce anxiety and fear, impacting future treatment adherence. Music intervention, a non-pharmacological approach, has shown promise in reducing anxiety and enhancing well-being, but further research is needed to explore its application in dental settings and the influence of factors like music type, duration, and volume.

Objective: To assess the effects of music interventions on dental anxiety and fear, analyze research trends, and identify knowledge gaps through a bibliometric analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Protein kinase C-α (PKC-α) is a serine/threonine protein kinase categorized within the lipid-regulated PKC family. Despite considerable research on PKC-α in various vertebrates, information about its presence and characteristics in lampreys-among the few extant jawed vertebrates and the most primitive-remains limited. In this study, we report the first identification of a PKC-α-like gene in lamprey by successfully cloning its coding region, composed of 1683 base pairs that encode 560 amino acids, from the constructed cDNA library of Lampetrajaponica.

In this study, we investigated the expression levels of miR-224-3p and inflammatory factors in the lens epithelium of patients with high myopia cataract (HMC) to determine how miR-224-3p/ACSL4 affects ferroptosis and inflammation in human lens epithelial cells (HLECs). The capsule tissues (including lens epithelial cells) of 36 patients with HMC and 36 patients with age-related cataract (ARC) were taken respectively. 18HMC and 18ARC capsule tissues were selected for RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) and the rest were used for qPCR assays.

Introduction/objectives: Anti-Sjögren's syndrome A (SSA/Ro60) and anti-Sjögren's syndrome B (SSB/La) antibodies are not present in up to 25% of patients with primary Sjögren's disease (SjD). Our observational study aims to provide a clinical perspective on the presentation, extra-glandular manifestations, as well as the immune profile of anti-SSA/SSB antibody double-negative SjD patients.

Method: A total of 615 SjD patients of age 53.

Background And Objective: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) frequently co-occurs with coronary artery disease (CAD), adversely affecting patients morbidity and mortality. Identifying new risk factors for CAD in COPD patients is essential for improving clinical management and patients outcomes.

Methods: This retrospective case-control study analyzed 406 COPD patients who underwent coronary artery computed tomography angiography (CCTA).

Background: Drug-induced thrombocytopenia (DITP) often occurs in patients during clinical treatment. However, clinicians usually fail to distinguish which drugs can be plausible culprits accurately. We aimed to develop a large comprehensive drug benchmark database with DITP toxicity using the recommended method by FDA.

Objective: Dynamic navigation approaches are widely employed in the context of implant placement surgery. Implant surgery can be divided into immediate and delayed surgery according to the time of implantation. This retrospective study was developed to compare the accuracy of dynamic navigation system for immediate and delayed implantations.

Objective: To investigate the dose effect of methylprednisolone (MP) on peripheral lymphocyte profiles in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This study investigated the impact of varied MP doses on peripheral lymphocyte subtypes in SLE patients.

Methods: We conducted a prospective study involving 51 SLE patients, categorized into four groups (40 mg/day, 80 mg/day, 500 mg/day, and 1000 mg/day) based on the administered MP dosage during hospitalization.

Behavior-change lifestyle interventions are fundamental in children and adolescent obesity management. This scoping review discusses optimal behavior-change lifestyle interventions in the treatment of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents. A literature search on diet, physical activity, and behavioral intervention for obesity treatment in children and adolescents aged 0-19 years was conducted in the Cochrane Library, MEDLINE (OVID), EMBASE, and ClinicalTrials.

Early-onset type 2 diabetes (T2D) is an increasingly serious public health issue, particularly in China. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of disease burden, secular trend, and attributable risk factors of early-onset T2D in China. Using data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021, we analyzed the age-standardized rate (ASR) of incidence, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and mortality rates of T2D among individuals aged 15 to 39 years in China from 1990 to 2021.

Objective: The gut microbiota and its metabolites exert a significant influence on COPD, yet the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. We aim to holistically evaluate the role and mechanisms of the gut microbiota and its metabolites in COPD through network pharmacology and Mendelian randomization approaches.

Methods: Employing network pharmacology, we identified the gut microbiota and its metabolites' impact on COPD-related targets, elucidating the complex network mechanisms involving the gut microbiota, its metabolites, targets, and signaling pathways in relation to COPD.

Background: Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign cystic of unknown etiology, characterized by multiple chambers and a high recurrence rate. Current treatment options include vascular embolization, surgical excision, curettage with cavity filling, sclerosing agent injection into the cavity, radiotherapy, and systemic drug therapy. Among these, surgical excision and curettage are the preferred treatment modalities.

Objective: Lung cancer, the most prevalent malignancy, is typically diagnosed at an advanced stage. Smoking is a pivotal risk factor for NSCLC, yet the impact of various smoking statuses on NSCLC remains unclear. Thus, this study aims to explore whether different smoking statuses can causally influence NSCLC through effects on predictive targets, offering a novel perspective for NSCLC treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the effectiveness of early rhythm control (ERC) versus usual care (UC) in treating patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), focusing on cardiovascular outcomes.
  • Recent research indicates that ERC is more beneficial for reducing major cardiovascular events than UC, especially concerning heart failure.
  • A cohort of 7,161 patients was analyzed, revealing that ERC significantly lowered the risk of major cardiovascular events and heart failure, while showing no significant differences for stroke, cardiovascular death, or all-cause mortality.

Background And Aim: Gut microbiome-targeted therapies (MTTs), including prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics, and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), have been widely used in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), but the best MTTs has not yet been confirmed. We performed a network meta-analysis (NMA) to examine this in ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD).

Methods: We searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the efficacy and safety of MTTs as adjuvant therapies for IBD until December 10, 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on enhancing silicon anodes for all-solid-state lithium batteries, which have high capacity but suffer from significant volume expansion during use, limiting their commercial viability.
  • - To address this, researchers created a porous micron-sized silicon anode coated with a self-doped carbon layer, enabling better structural stability and reducing the risk of fragmentation during the charge/discharge cycles.
  • - The modified anode (p-mSi@C) demonstrated impressive electrochemical performance and provided insights into the chemical failure mechanisms, paving the way for more practical applications of silicon anodes in battery technology.
