Background: The number of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) in China has increased more than 20-fold over the last decade. Consequently, there is a need for national-level information to characterize PCI indications and long-term patient outcomes, including health status, to understand and improve evolving practice patterns.

Objectives: This nationwide prospective study of patients receiving PCI is to: (1) measure long-term clinical outcomes (including death, acute myocardial infarction [AMI], and/or revascularization), patient-reported outcomes (PROs), cardiovascular risk factor control and adherence to medications for secondary prevention; (2) determine patient- and hospital-level factors associated with care process and outcomes; and (3) assess the appropriateness of PCI procedures.

[Study of prevention and control of delirium in ventilated patients by simulating blockage of circadian rhythm with sedative in intensive care unit].

Objective: To explore the effect of giving sedatives according to the circadian rhythm in prevention of occurrence of delirium and the prognosis of patients undergoing mechanical ventilation in intensive care unit (ICU).

Methods: A prospective double-blinded randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted. The patients admitted to Department of Critical Care Medicine of the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University from July 2014 to February 2015, undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation over 12 hours were enrolled.

Metformin inhibits the prometastatic effect of sorafenib in hepatocellular carcinoma by upregulating the expression of TIP30.

We previously found that a low dose of sorafenib had a prometastatic effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which was caused by downregulation of TIP30 expression. More recently, metformin has been shown to have potential as a preventive and therapeutic agent for different cancers, including HCC. This study evaluated whether the combination of sorafenib and metformin is sufficient to revert the expression of TIP30, thereby simultaneously reducing lung metastasis and improving survival.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is primarily due to the progressive, selective and irreversible loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra (SN). Interestingly, DA neurons in the ventral and lateral SN are much more susceptible than adjacent dopamine neurons in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) not only in human PD but in many PD model systems. However, the molecular causes of regional vulnerability in PD remain unknown.

China Patient-centered Evaluative Assessment of Cardiac Events Prospective Study of Acute Myocardial Infarction: Study Design.

Background: Despite the rapid growth in the incidence of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in China, there is limited information about patients' experiences after AMI hospitalization, especially on long-term adverse events and patient-reported outcomes (PROs).

Methods: The China Patient-centered Evaluative Assessment of Cardiac Events (PEACE)-Prospective AMI Study will enroll 4000 consecutive AMI patients from 53 diverse hospitals across China and follow them longitudinally for 12 months to document their treatment, recovery, and outcomes. Details of patients' medical history, treatment, and in-hospital outcomes are abstracted from medical charts.

Dendritic cells pulsed with Hsp70 and HBxAg induce specific antitumor immune responses in hepatitis B virus-associated hepatocellular carcinoma.

Previous studies have drawn attention to dendritic cell (DC) vaccines; particularly the application of the tumor-associated antigen-targeted DC vaccine. The present study analyzed DCs derived from a normal individual and pulsed the cells with heat shock protein 70 peptide (Hsp70) and/or hepatitis B virus x antigen (HBxAg), a hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)-associated antigen. It was then investigated whether this method of vaccination induced strong therapeutic antitumor immunity.

(18)F-FDG Uptake Characteristics in Differentiating Benign from Malignant Nasopharyngeal Lesions in Children.

The characteristics of FDG uptake in the physiologic and malignant nasopharynx were investigated in the paper which was correlated with either pathologic findings or clinical follow-up. Three patients had pathologically established nasopharyngeal malignancy. In the 3 nasopharyngeal malignancies, 2 had diffusely and expansively increased FDG uptake, and one had asymmetric uptake.

CELF1 is Up-Regulated in Glioma and Promotes Glioma Cell Proliferation by Suppression of CDKN1B.

Background: As a member of the CELF family, CELF1 (CUG-binding protein 1, CUGBP1) is involved in cardiac and embryonic development, skeletal muscle differentiation and mammary epithelial cell proliferation. CELF1 is also observed in many kinds of cancer and may play a great role in tumorigenesis and deterioration. However, the expression and mechanism of its function in human glioma remain unclear.

A prospective study of psychological resilience and depression among left-behind children in China.

This prospective study examined the longitudinal effects of psychological resilience on depression in a Chinese sample of left-behind children. A total of 386 left-behind children completed both a baseline and a 1-year follow-up survey. The prevalence of depression at the baseline and 1-year follow-up was 12.

Application of near infrared reflectance (NIR) spectroscopy to identify potential PSE meat.

Background: Pale, soft and exudative (PSE) meat is a quality problem that causes a large economic loss to the pork industry. In the present work, near infrared (NIR) quantification and identification methods were used to investigate the feasibility of differentiating potential PSE meat from normal meat.

Results: NIR quantification models were developed to estimate meat pH and colour attributes (L*, a*, b*).

MicroRNA-424 inhibits Akt3/E2F3 axis and tumor growth in hepatocellular carcinoma.

By comparing the expression profiles of miRNAs in different subtypes of HCC, we identified miR-424 as a HCC related miRNA. We found that the expression of miR-424 was significantly decreased in HCC tissues and six liver cancer cell lines. Significantly, its expression levels were correlated with tumor size, multiple nodules, vein invasion, TNM stage and overall survival of HCC.

[Potential Carbon Fixation Capability of Non-photosynthetic Microbial Community at Different Depth of the South China Sea and Its Response to Different Electron Donors].

The seawater samples collected from many different areas with different depth in the South China Sea were cultivated using different electron donors respectively. And the variation in the potential carbon fixation capability ( PCFC ) of non-photosynthetic microbial community (NPMC) in seawater with different depth was determined after a cycle of cultivation through the statistic analysis. In addition, the cause for the variation was clarified through analyzing key gene abundance regarding CO2 fixation and characteristics of seawater with different depth.

Methods: Pubmed and EMBASE databases were searched for studies reporting IDH mutations (IHD1/2 and IDH1) and survival in gliomas.

We performed an updated meta-analysis to obtain a more precise estimation of the relationship between apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene polymorphism and susceptibility to depression, as previous reports have been inconsistent. Twenty studies with 2286 depression patients and 3845 controls were included. Odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated to assess the association between ApoE gene polymorphism and depression using a random effects model.
