Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how cervical degeneration differs between healthy individuals with and without cervical flexion-relaxation phenomenon (FRP) and examines if the loss of FRP is connected to degeneration.
  • Healthy participants were categorized into normal and abnormal FRP groups, with MRI assessments utilized to analyze degeneration in both passive (like vertebrae and discs) and active (like neck muscles) systems.
  • Results indicated significant differences in cervical degeneration between the two groups, suggesting that a lack of FRP is associated with increased degeneration, supporting the idea that cervical FRP tests could help differentiate between healthy individuals and those with neck-related issues.

When conducting retreat mining in segmented coal pillars, the dynamic evolution of stress and overlying strata structure is more complex than conventional working faces due to the influence of adjacent working faces. Understanding and mastering the dynamic evolution patterns of overlying strata structure after retreat mining in segmented coal pillar working faces is essential for guiding the safe recovery of coal pillar resources under similar conditions. Through statistical analysis of the types of residual coal and the mining techniques, the current research status of residual coal mining system in China has been summarized.

Chemotherapy and surgery stand as primary cancer treatments, yet the unique traits of the tumor microenvironment hinder their effectiveness. The natural compound epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) possesses potent anti-tumor and antibacterial traits. However, the tumor's adaptability to chemotherapy due to its acidic pH and elevated glutathione (GSH) levels, coupled with the challenges posed by drug-resistant bacterial infections post-surgery, impede treatment outcomes.

Background: The rapid increase in the number of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures in China and worldwide has led to growing attention to hypoattenuating leaflet thickening (HALT) detected during follow-up by 4D-CT. It's reported that HALT may impact the durability of prosthetic valve. Early identification of these patients and timely deployment of anticoagulant therapy are therefore particularly important.

The Period () gene family is one of the core components of the circadian clock, with substantial correlations between the genes and cancers identified in extensive researches. Abnormal mutations in genes can influence cell function, metabolic activity, immunity, and therapy responses, thereby promoting the initiation and development of cancers. This ultimately results in unequal cancers progression and prognosis in patients.

Methane-derived authigenic carbonate often constitutes the sole remaining record of relic methane seeps. The clumped (∆) and oxygen isotopic composition of seep carbonates often yield inaccurate temperatures, attributed to kinetic isotope effects and modification of seawater isotope composition by hydrate water. Here, we analyzed the dual-clumped isotope (∆/∆) composition of authigenic carbonate from a modern methane seep.

There is a huge funding gap in the abandoned mines ecological restoration in China. It is of great research value to explore how PPP model can better introduce social capital into the low-profit ecological restoration of abandoned mines. Based on the innovation perspective of the central government's reward and punishment system, this paper constructs an evolutionary game model of "local government-social capital", analyzes the interaction and behavior mechanism of core stakeholders in the operation process of abandoned mines ecological restoration PPP mode, and discusses the influence of evolutionary equilibrium strategy and parameters change on evolutionary strategy under different scenarios by Matlab simulation.

Triggering the lattice oxygen oxidation mechanism is crucial for improving oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance, because it could bypass the scaling relation limitation associated with the conventional adsorbate evolution mechanism through the direct formation of oxygen-oxygen bond. High-valence transition metal sites are favorable for activating the lattice oxygen, but the deep oxidation of pre-catalysts suffers from a high thermodynamic barrier. Here, taking advantage of the Jahn-Teller (J-T) distortion induced structural instability, we incorporate high-spin Mn ( ) dopant into CoN.

Dysregulated neutrophil recruitment drives many pulmonary diseases, but most preclinical screening methods are unsuited to evaluate pulmonary neutrophilia, limiting progress towards therapeutics. Namely, high throughput therapeutic screening systems typically exclude critical neutrophilic pathophysiology, including blood-to-lung recruitment, dysfunctional activation, and resulting impacts on the air-blood barrier. To meet the conflicting demands of physiological complexity and high throughput, we developed an assay of 96-well Leukocyte recruitment in an Air-Blood Barrier Array (L-ABBA-96) that enables -like neutrophil recruitment compatible with downstream phenotyping by automated flow cytometry.

When cells are stressed, DNA from energy-producing mitochondria can leak out and drive inflammatory immune responses if not cleared. Cells employ a quality control system called autophagy to specifically degrade damaged components. We discovered that mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM)-a protein that binds mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)-helps to eliminate leaked mtDNA by interacting with the autophagy protein LC3 through an autolysosomal pathway (we term this nucleoid-phagy).

Pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic progressive lung disease with limited therapeutic options. We previously revealed that there is iron deposition in alveolar epithelial type II cell (AECII) in pulmonary fibrosis, which can be prevented by the iron chelator deferoxamine. However, iron in the cytoplasm and the mitochondria has two relatively independent roles and regulatory systems.
