Implementing a standardised discharge analgesia guideline to reduce paediatric post tonsillectomy pain.

Objectives: To reduce readmission for pain control post-paediatric tonsillectomy.

Introduction: Paediatric tonsillectomy is a common procedure in the UK. Uncontrolled pain at home is a common reason for re-admission and therefore adequate analgesic control following paediatric tonsillectomy is vital for a smooth post-operative recovery.

The incidence of fractures in children under the age of 24 months--in relation to non-accidental injury.

Introduction: Fractures in children are the second most common presentation of child abuse. In younger children, especially in those less than 18 months, fractures should be considered suspicious of a non-accidental injury (NAI). Risk factors associated for abuse are: age younger than 12 months, non-ambulatory status, delayed presentation, unknown or inconsistent history of mechanism of injury, and presence of any other injuries.
