Background: The abnormal expression of lncRNA in elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and the ability of exosomes to stably carry non-coding RNAs provide a reliable physiological basis for exosomal lncRNA in plasma as a biomarker of MCI.

Methods: This case-control study enrolled 155 patients with MCI and 155 healthy controls from a community-based population aged≥60 years. The expression profiles of lncRNA and mRNA in plasma exosomes were analyzed and validated using high-throughput RNA sequencing and qRT-PCR.

With the acceleration of population aging, disability in older adults is a growing public health problem; however, little is known about the role of specific leisure-time activities in affecting disability. This study prospectively examined the association of leisure-time activities with disability among the Chinese oldest old. A total of 14 039 adults aged 80 years or older (median age of 89.

Context: Severe cases of stroke can lead to cognitive impairment or even dementia. The most critical factor related to cognitive impairment after strokes is patients' lack of understanding about or attention to their conditions. Strengthening standardized management post-stroke has become a common goal for clinical workers and patients.

Evidence for the effects of dietary diversity changes and cognitive frailty (CF) in the older adults is not clear. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between dietary diversity changes and CF in older adults Chinese. A total of 14,382 participants (mean age: 82.

The association between long-term joint exposure to all kinds of ambient air pollutants and the risk of mortality is not known. Our study prospectively assessed the joint associations of various air pollutants with cause-specific and all-cause mortality risk and identified potential modifying factors affecting these associations. A total of 400,259 individuals aged 40-70 years were included in this study.

Article Synopsis
  • A study explored the link between dietary diversity and frailty in older Chinese adults, examining 13,721 participants aged 65 and older who were initially not frail.
  • Results showed that higher dietary diversity scores (DDS) significantly reduced the risk of frailty, with each increase in DDS linked to a 5% lower risk.
  • Protein-rich foods, along with frequent consumption of tea and fruits, were particularly beneficial in lowering frailty risk, suggesting that diverse diets could be a key factor in maintaining health among older adults.

Background: Fish oil is one of the most popular supplements in the UK and other developed countries. However, the relationship between fish oil use and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is unclear.

Objective: To prospectively examine the association of habitual fish oil supplementation with incident COPD risk and to evaluate potential effect modification by genetic predisposition.

Article Synopsis
  • Non-pharmaceutical interventions, widely used to curb COVID-19, had a significant impact on influenza incidence across four countries during the 2019-2020 season.
  • Data analysis showed that influenza cases dropped to nearly zero for six months, with Japan and Singapore experiencing declines of 77.71% and 60.50%, respectively, compared to previous years.
  • The findings imply that embracing these preventive measures could effectively reduce influenza cases and suggest that traditional public health strategies should be reinforced and adopted more broadly.

Chronic inflammation exerts pleiotropic effects in the aetiology and progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Glucosamine is widely used in many countries and may have anti-inflammatory properties. We aimed to prospectively evaluate the association of regular glucosamine use with incident COPD risk and explore whether such association could be modified by smoking in the UK Biobank cohort, which recruited more than half a million participants aged 40-69 years from across the UK between 2006 and 2010.

Both genetic variants and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) contribute to the risk of incident severe coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Whether genetic risk of incident severe COVID-19 is the same regardless of preexisting COPD is unknown. In this study, we aimed to investigate the potential interaction between genetic risk and COPD in relation to severe COVID-19.

Alzheimer's disease is characterized by neuronal degeneration in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus and subcortical neuronal degeneration in such nuclei as the locus coeruleus (LC). Transgenic mice overexpressing mutant human amyloid precursor protein V717F, PDAPP mice, develop several Alzheimer's disease-like lesions. The present study sought to determine whether there is also loss of LC noradrenergic neurons or evidence of degenerative changes in these animals.
