Objective: The present work concentrated on validating whether sinomenine alleviates bleomycin (BLM)-induced pulmonary fibrosis, inflammation, and oxidative stress.

Methods: A rat model of pulmonary fibrosis was constructed through intratracheal injection with 5 mg/kg BLM, and the effects of 30 mg/kg sinomenine on pulmonary inflammation, fibrosis, apoptosis, and 4-hydroxynonenal density were evaluated by hematoxylin and eosin staining, Masson's trichrome staining, TUNEL staining, and immunohistochemistry. Hydroxyproline content and concentrations of inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress markers were detected using corresponding kits.

Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) decreases cardiac function and efficiency. Accumulating evidence suggests that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been linked to the cellular processes of myocardial I/R injury. The present investigation elucidated the function of lncRNA colon cancer-associated transcript 2 (CCAT2) in myocardial I/R injury and the related mechanisms.

Background: Ferroptosis plays an essential role in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI). Meteorin-like/Meteorin-β (Metrnβ) is a protein secreted by skeletal muscle and adipose tissue and plays a role in cardiovascular diseases. However, its role in acute lung injury has not been elucidated.

Objective: Unfavorable outcomes in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) are mainly attributed to early brain injury (EBI). Reduction of neuronal death can improve the prognosis in SAH patients. Autophagy and apoptosis are critical players in neuronal death.

Gastric cancer (GC) is a common malignant tumor, posing a great threat to human's health and life. Previous studies have suggested aberrant expression of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in GC. This study elucidated the effects of lncRNA ACTA2-AS1 on the biological characteristics of GC.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is an extremely severe cardiovascular disease, which ranks as the leading cause of sudden death worldwide. Studies have proved that cardiac injury following MI can cause cardiomyocyte apoptosis and myocardial fibrosis. Bilobalide (Bilo) from Ginkgo biloba leaves have been widely reported to possess excellent cardioprotective effects.

Objective: Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma translocation protein 1 (MALT1) modulates the inflammatory immune response and organ dysfunction, which are closely implicated in sepsis pathogenesis and progression. This study aimed to explore the role of MALT1 in sepsis-induced organ injury, immune cell dysregulation, and inflammatory storms.

Methods: Septic mice were constructed by intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide, followed by overexpression or knockdown of MALT1 by tail vein injection of the corresponding lentivirus.

Tinnitus is a phantom perception of sound in the absence of acoustic source. Previous evidence has indicated that miR-375-3p is downregulated in rats with tinnitus in comparison to the controls. Nevertheless, its molecular mechanism underlying tinnitus pathogenesis is unclarified.

Background: Pyroptosis refers to programmed cell death associated with inflammation. Emodin has been reported to alleviate lung injuries caused by various pathological processes and attenuate ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injuries in diverse tissues.

Methods: Lewis rats were assigned into the sham, the I/R, and the I/R + emodin groups.

Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), is a serious contagious disease. MTB-encoded small regulatory RNA (sRNA) MTS2823 was reported to be upregulated in the plasma of TB patients. Nevertheless, whether MTS2823 is implicated in MTB drug resistance is unclear.

A previous study found that transmembrane protein 43 (TMEM43) was highly associated with arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia/cardiomyopathy. However, as a transmembrane protein, TMEM43 may be involved in ferroptosis in cardiovascular disease. In this study, we aimed to explore the role of TMEM43 in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced cardiac injury and the underlying mechanism.

Osteosarcoma is the most common primary malignant bone tumor in children and adolescents with poor prognosis. MicroRNA-181a-5p (miR-181a-5p) is involved in the progression of various tumors; however, its role and underlying mechanism in osteosarcoma remains unclear. In this study, we found that miR-181a-5p was upregulated in human osteosarcoma cells and tissues.

C1q/TNF-related protein 9 (CTRP9) acts as an adipokine and has been reported to exert numerous biological functions, such as anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative stress effects, in ischemic heart disease. In the present study, the role of CTRP9 in neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCMs) following hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) and the underlying mechanism was investigated. Adenoviral vectors containing CTRP9 or green fluorescent protein were transfected into NRCMs.

The 1-year mortality and health consequences of COVID-19 in cancer patients are relatively underexplored. In this multicenter cohort study, 166 COVID-19 patients with cancer were compared with 498 non-cancer COVID-19 patients and 498 non-COVID cancer patients. The 1-year all-cause mortality and hospital mortality rates in Cancer COVID-19 Cohort (30% and 20%) were significantly higher than those in COVID-19 Cohort (9% and 8%, both P < .

Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS)-induced apoptosis serves a crucial role in the pathogenesis of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI). Previous studies have confirmed that pleckstrin homology-like domain family A member 3 (PHLDA3) is an important mediator in ERS-associated apoptosis. The aim of the current study focused on whether PHLDA3 served protective effects on hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-injured cardiomyocytes by inhibiting ERS-induced apoptosis.
