H1-antihistamines are recognized to be effective for conditions such as allergic rhinitis and chronic spontaneous urticaria. However, management of such conditions in the real-world primary care setting may be challenging due to diverse patient-specific considerations, the wide range of antihistamines available, choice of other treatment modalities, and the complexity of interpreting specialist treatment algorithms. Despite regular updates to international guidelines, regional/national surveys of healthcare professionals show a clear gap between guidelines and real-world practice, particularly at the primary care level.

The Role of Combination Calcipotriol plus Betamethasone Dipropionate Gel in the Treatment of Moderate-to-Severe Scalp Seborrhoeic Dermatitis.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the off-label use of a combination calcipotriol plus betamethasone dipropionate (CBD) gel in the treatment of moderate-to-severe scalp seborrhoeic dermatitis (SSD).

Methods: This retrospective study involved 32 patients with SSD who were prescribed CBD gel at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Selangor, Malaysia, between January 2016 and December 2017. The Physician Global Assessment Scale was used to assess disease severity.

Quality of life in patients with erythema nodosum leprosum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Background: There is a paucity of data on quality of life issues in patients with leprosy suffering from erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL). Thus, we aim to study the effect of ENL on quality of life.

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Hansen's Clinic, Hospital Kuala Lumpur between January 2010 and December 2013 among patients with multibacillary leprosy using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI).

Safety and efficacy of fixed-dose 10 mg daily isotretinoin treatment for acne vulgaris in Malaysia.

Introduction: Low-dose isotretinoin is used to reduce side effects albeit higher relapse. This study aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of fixed-dose 10 mg daily isotretinoin for the treatment of acne.

Methods: This prospective study was performed between 2011 and 2015.

Sporotrichosis is a subacute or chronic fungal infection caused by the ubiquitous fungus Sporothrix schenckii. Disseminated cutaneous sporotrichosis is an uncommon entity and is usually present in the immunosuppressed. Here, a case of disseminated cutaneous sporotrichosis in an immunocompetent patient is reported.

Cutaneous larva migrans in Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: rate of correct diagnosis made by the referring primary care doctors.

A retrospective study was undertaken to determine the clinical features of cutaneous larva migrans (CLM) seen in the Department of Dermatology, Hospital Kuala Lumpur (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) and to assess the rate of correct diagnosis made by the referring primary care doctors. Clinical records of all 31 patients with CLM seen between January 2006 and June 2010 were retrieved. The majority of patients were male.

Syringocystadenoma papilliferum in an unusual location beyond the head and neck region: a case report and review of literature.

A case of syringocystadenoma papilliferum with multiple papulonodules in a linear fashion located in an unusual location of the right lower abdomen is presented. The presence of a large tumor at the inferior pole raised the suspicion of malignant transformation and the presence of discharge from the lesions raised the possibility of necrosis. However, histopathological examination showed the classical features of syringocystadenoma papilliferum without malignant transformation or tumor necrosis.

A prospective cross-sectional study was done between December 2007 and June 2009 in the skin clinic, Sarawak General Hospital, to determine the clinical characteristics of 138 Sarawakian natives with a clinical diagnosis of psoriasis. Women made up 50.7% and the mean age of the patients was 45.

Penicilliosis is a systemic fungal infection caused by Penicillium marneffei. The infection is most commonly seen in Southeast Asia, Southern China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. It is rarely seen among individuals of African descent.

Clinical characteristics of basal cell carcinoma in a tertiary hospital in Sarawak, Malaysia.

Background: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common skin cancer among Orientals. Data on this malignancy is lacking in Malaysia, prompting a retrospective study to determine the clinical characteristics in the skin clinic, Sarawak General Hospital between 2000 and 2008.

Methods: Demographic data and clinical features of 64 histopathologically proven BCC from 43 patients were retrieved.

A 30-year-old man presented to the genitourinary medicine clinic with the sudden appearance of an asymptomatic, 2 mm wide, flesh-colored, firm, and cord-like lesion encircling the coronal sulcus circumferentially following vigorous sexual intercourse with his wife. An initial diagnosis of sexually transmitted disease-associated penile swelling was entertained. He was given antibiotics for this condition.

Chromoblastomycosis in Sarawak, East malaysian Borneo.

A retrospective study was conducted to determine the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of 11 new patients with a histological diagnosis of chromoblastomycosis at Sarawak General Hospital, Malaysia, between 1996 and 2008. The majority (81.8%) were males, and the median age at presentation was 40 years.

Multicentric reticulohistiocytosis in a Malaysian Chinese lady: a case report and review of literature .

A 36-year-old Malaysian woman with erosive arthritis presented with multiple asymptomatic skin colored papulonodules on the hands, elbows, knees, ears, and feet; many macules, papules, and plaques were photodistributed. Progressive, erosive arthritis began about 18 months after the onset of skin involvement. Initially the patient was diagnosed to have dermatomyositis due to her skin findings, but later proved to have multicentric reticulohistiocytosis based on the typical histopathological features of histiocytic multinucleated giant cells with eosinophilic ground glass cytoplasm on skin biopsy.
