Aims: Aortic elongation can result from age-related changes, congenital factors, aneurysms, or conditions affecting blood vessel elasticity. It is associated with cardiovascular diseases and severe complications like aortic aneurysms and dissection. We assess qualitatively and quantitatively explainable methods to understand the decisions of a deep learning model for detecting aortic elongation using chest X-ray (CXR) images.

Increased formation of sombrero vesicles occurs in activated eosinophils in vitro and in vivo. In tissue sites of eosinophilic cytolytic inflammation, extracellular eosinophil sombrero vesicles are noted, but their frequency and significance in eosinophil-associated diseases remain unclear.

The vast extent of soybean plantations across the Brazilian territory exposes this crop to attack by several insects, including the velvetbean caterpillar, Anticarsia gemmatalis. One of the alternatives used to control this insect are the toxins produced by Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt).

Since animal models are frequently used for elucidating the disease mechanism and therapeutic development, it is relevant to study the ultrastructural characteristics and functional responses in human and mouse FLS. The objective of the study was to analyze ultrastructural characteristics, Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and Metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) production and the activation of intracellular pathways in Fibroblast like synoviocytes (FLS) cultures obtained from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and from mice with collagen-induced arthritis (CIA).

The proposal was developed from March 2019 to March 2020, reaching 240 people to contain the spread of the disease through a survey, testing, and monitoring of positive cases. We adopted intersectoral action with articulation between Universities, Medical Society, Teaching Hospital, and State Secretariat for Justice and Public Security.

As this process generates a considerable amount of toxic waste, the use of tannases or tannase-producing microorganisms has become a greener alternative over the last years. However, their high costs still impose some barriers for industrial scalability, requiring solutions that could be both greener and cost-effective.

This phytoflagellate is able to synthesize proteins displaying similarity to the cysteine peptidase named cruzipain, an important virulence factor from , the etiologic agent of Chagas disease. Herein, the growth of in complex medium (BHI) supplemented with natural tomato extract (NTE) resulted in the increased expression of cysteine peptidases, as verified by the hydrolysis of the fluorogenic substrate Z-Phe-Arg-AMC and by gelatin-SDS-PAGE.

In this visualization, the author presents evidence from the Current Population Survey examining the effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 crisis on racial and gender inequalities in employment in the United States among prime-age workers. The author shows that the white-nonwhite gap in employment increased significantly during the post-outbreak period.

The objective of the present work was to evaluate the efficiency of Bioverm () in the control of gastrointestinal parasitism of young cattle raised in the field, in the Central-West region of Brazil. The experiment was conducted on a farm located in the municipality of Jangada, MT, where 18 cattle, Nelore and Aberdeen Angus breeds, aged six to ten months, were randomly divided into two groups (treated group and control group) and distributed in paddocks of , naturally infested by larvae of gastrointestinal nematodes.

Here, we studied the role of two conserved enzymes involved in redox regulation that play a critical role in the control of ROS in the digestive physiology of a blood-sucking insect, the kissing bug . RNAi-mediated silencing of and induced early mortality in adult females after a blood meal.

Background And Objectives: Arrhythmia is a heart disease characterized by the change in the regularity of the heartbeat. Since this disorder can occur sporadically, Holter devices are used for continuous long-term monitoring of the subject's electrocardiogram (ECG). In this process, a large volume of data is generated.

Presently, these instruments are also applied in industrial processes and need to cope with dynamic operating conditions increasingly. However, since the quantification of phase fractions is achieved by normalizing signals with respect to a separately recorded reference measurement, the results are sensitive to temperature differences in any application.

Iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) have been tested to remediate aquatic environments polluted by chemicals, such as pesticides. However, their interactive effects on aquatic organisms remain unknown. This study aimed to investigate the genotoxicity and mutagenicity of co-exposure of IONPs (γ-FeO NPs) and glyphosate-based herbicide (GBH) in the fish Poecilia reticulata.

Water quality monitoring must be performed with an integrated approach using biomonitor organisms allied to water parameters. Nonetheless, very few studies have focused on biomarker responses in neotropical fish, especially in the freshwater ecosystem of Brazilian Cerrado savanna.

We show that the drop in the employment rate in post-outbreak months was largely driven by mass layoffs and not by workers quitting their jobs. Results from fixed-effects regression models show a strong fatherhood premium in the likelihood of being laid off for post-outbreak months compared to mothers, men without children, and women without children.

Anticarsia gemmatalis (Hübner, 1818) and Chrysodeixis includens (Walker, 1858) are species of Lepidoptera that cause great damages in the soybean plantations of Brazil. Despite the importance they have in this regard, there are no studies on the chromosomal organization of these species and recently, A. gemmatalis, which belonged to the Noctuidae family, was allocated to the Erebidae family.
