Pharmacological evidences have correlated a low incidence of osteoporosis, breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, and colon cancer in Asian populations, high consumers of soya, to the properties of soy isoflavones, more specifically to daidzein and genistein. However, in spite of the potent biological activity, their poor water solubility has a strong negative effect on bioavailability. In this study, an innovative technique, nano spray drying, was used to obtain nanoparticles loaded with a soybean dry extract while carboxymethyl cellulose was used as the excipient.

In this work, an aerogel in form of core-shell particles, able to prolong drug activity on wounds and to be easily removed was developed. Aerogel microcapsules consisted of a core made by amidated pectin hosting doxycycline, an antibiotic drug with a broad spectrum of action, and a shell consisting of high mannuronic content alginate.

This work aims to the formulation of enteric alginate beads loaded with omeprazole (OME) allowing age- and weight-related personalized dosages in children. OME was entrapped in SBA-15 mesoporous compound, characterized and loaded into alginate beads by prilling at different OME and alginate concentrations.

High mannuronic (M) content alginate and low molecular weight chitosan have been used as hydrogel carrier. Peptide recovery analyses, FTIR studies and molecular modelling highlighted chemical interactions between peptide and hydrogel polymers.

Gentamicin sulphate (GS) was loaded into alginate/pectin nanoparticles as highly soluble (hygroscopic) model drug with wide range antibacterial agent for wound dressing. The influence of process variables, mainly spray mesh size and feed concentration, on particle size and morphology, powder wound fluid uptake ability and gelling rate, as well as hydrogel water vapour transmission at wound site were studied.

Supercritical assisted atomization was used to produce microparticles in form of dry powder and characteristics were compared with those obtained by spray-drying. Particles with very high encapsulation efficiency (approximately 100%) and small diameter (less than 2 μm) showed good flowability and high fluid uptake enabling wound site filling and limiting bacterial proliferation.
