The Turkevich method was optimized to prepare gold nanoparticles (AuNP) stabilized by polyethyleneglycol (PEG) for µCT. Using various independent modalities, we thoroughly characterized the optimized PEG-AuNPs. Here, we show that PEG-AuNPs are retained in the blood and provide a high contrast in the high-resolution µCT imaging of blood vessels and inner organs.

This comparative study investigates the modification of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes with different nanoparticles (TiO or TiO-based composites containing BiVO and/or CNT), using three distinct methods (blending, coating, and grafting) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). The objective was to enhance the photocatalytic and filtration performance for the separation of oil-in-water emulsions. Regarding the UV activity, the PVDF-TiO/CNT/PVP-coated membrane presented the best performance.

The microstructure and physical properties of reflective and black aluminum were compared for layers of different thicknesses deposited by magnetron sputtering on fused silica substrates. Reflective Al layers followed the Volmer-Weber growth mechanism classically observed for polycrystalline metal films. On the contrary, the extra nitrogen gas used to deposit the black aluminum layers modified the growth mechanism and changed the film morphologies.

We propose a label-free biosensor concept based on the charge state manipulation of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) quantum color centers in diamond, combined with an electrochemical microfluidic flow cell sensor, constructed on boron-doped diamond. This device can be set at a defined electrochemical potential, locking onto the particular chemical reaction, whilst the NV center provides the sensing function. The NV charge state occupation is initially prepared by applying a bias voltage on a gate electrode and then subsequently altered by exposure to detected charged molecules.
