Article Synopsis
  • * A total of 236 participants were involved, and five key predictors were identified: body mass index (BMI), diabetes, hiatal hernia, existing GERD, and triglyceride levels.
  • * The nomogram demonstrated moderate predictive accuracy, with ROC curve values of 0.779 for the training set and 0.796 for the validation set, making it useful for clinical application within certain risk thresholds.

Background: Post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) is a serious complication after hepatectomy and a major cause of death. The current criteria for PHLF diagnosis (ISGLS consensus) require laboratory data of elevated INR level and hyperbilirubinemia on or after postoperative day 5. This study aims to propose a new indicator for the early clinical prediction of PHLF.

Background: Liver fibrosis is a predisposing factor for liver cancer. This study will investigate the predictive role of the Triglyceride-glucose and Gamma-glutamyl transferase index (TyG-GGT) as a non-invasive indicator of advanced liver fibrosis in individuals with obesity or overweight.

Method: We enrolled patients who underwent metabolic and bariatric surgery as well as intraoperative liver biopsies at Zhejiang provincial people's hospital from August 2020 to March 2023.

Several observational studies have reported an association between obesity and primary liver cancer (PLC), while the causality behind this association and the comparison of the risk effects of different obesity indicators on PLC remain unclear. In this study, we performed two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses to assess the associations of genetically determined liver fat, visceral adipose tissue (VAT), and body mass index (BMI) with the risk of PLC. The summary statistics of exposures were obtained from two genome-wide association studies (GWASs) based on the UK Biobank (UKB) imaging cohort and the Genetic Epidemiology Research on Adult Health and Aging (GERA) cohort.

Background And Aims: Preoperative prediction of microvascular invasion (MVI) using a noninvasive method remain unresolved, especially in HBV-related in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). This study aimed to build and validate a preoperative prediction model for MVI in HBV-related ICC.

Methods: Patients with HBV-associated ICC undergoing curative surgical resection were identified.

Objective: This study aimed to construct a nomogram to effectively predict the 3 years and 5 years overall survival of patients with thymic squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC).

Method: From 2000 to 2019, a total of 355 patients with TSCC were enrolled in our research from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database and used as the training cohort. 106 patients were included from the Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, for the external validation cohort.

Background And Aims: An increasing number of studies have confirmed that non-textbook outcomes (non-TO) are a risk factor for the long-term outcome of malignant tumors. It is particularly important to identify the predictive factors of non-TO to improve the quality of surgical treatment. We attempted to construct two nomograms for preoperative and postoperative prediction of non-TO after laparoscopic hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Background & Aims: Although anatomical hepatectomy (AH) is widely used in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the prognosis is still unsatisfactory. The present study aimed to evaluate the survival benefit of adjuvant transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for patients with HCC after AH.

Methods: A total of 832 patients were stratified into with adjuvant TACE (443, 53.

Article Synopsis
  • - Liver cancer, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is a prevalent and aggressive type of cancer that poses challenges in diagnosis and treatment, leading to poor patient outcomes.
  • - Intratumoral heterogeneity (ITH) refers to the variations in genetic makeup and characteristics within the same tumor, impacting growth, treatment resistance, and immune evasion.
  • - The review highlights how changes in glucose metabolism and the distinct metabolic traits of tumor cells in HCC are interconnected, providing insights into the cancer's development and potential therapeutic targets.

Background & Aims: The long-term prognosis of patients with metabolic syndrome (MS) and hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HBV-HCC) after radical hepatectomy remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the effect of MS on long-term survival for patients with HBV-related HCC after hepatectomy.

Methods: Patients with HBV-HCC after hepatectomy were included.

Purpose: Laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains controversial, especially for tumors larger than 5 cm. We compared the short- and long-term outcomes of laparoscopic and open liver resection (OLR) for large HCC.

Methods: Patients with large HCC after curative hepatectomy were enrolled.

Background And Aims: Recently, the effectiveness of "textbook outcomes (TO)" in the evaluation of surgical quality has been recognized by more and more scholars. This study tended to examine the association between preoperative albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) grades and the incidence of achieving or not achieving TO (non-TO) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) undergoing laparoscopic hepatectomy.

Methods: The patients were stratified into two groups: ALBI grade 1 (ALBI ≤ -2.
