Vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) and direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) prevent thromboembolic events, but information about the quality of life (QoL) and patient satisfaction in relation with the anticoagulant treatment is limited. : REGUEIFA is a prospective, observational, and multicentre study that included patients with AF treated by cardiologists.

Environmental factors play a key role in individual adaptation to different local conditions. Because of this, studies about the physiological and genetic responses of individuals exposed to different natural environments offer clues about mechanisms involved in population differentiation, and as a subsequent result, speciation. Marine environments are especially suited to survey this kind of phenomena because they commonly harbor species adapted to different local conditions along a geographic continuum.

Influence of magnetic field on a novel scintillation dosimeter in a 1.5 T MR-linac.

For commissioning and quality assurance for adaptive workflows on the MR-linac, a dosimeter which can measure time-resolved dose during MR image acquisition is desired. The Blue Physics model 10 scintillation dosimeter is potentially an ideal detector for such measurements. However, some detectors can be influenced by the magnetic field of the MR-linac.

New Draft Genome Sequence of the Ergot Disease Fungus Claviceps paspali.

Here, we report a new draft genome sequence of an isolate of the ascomycete that is responsible for ergot disease in grasses of the genus. This new draft genome sequence will provide useful data for evaluating intraspecies and interspecies genome variation in and other genus members.

Dual-purpose cattle smallholder farms (DP) exhibit a critical economic situation. The objective of this research was building a typology for DP in tropical conditions and characterizing them technologically. This will help developing more effective public policies in DP farms located in tropical conditions.

The genus Senecio is distributed worldwide, being responsible of poisoning in livestock and humans. Many species of Senecio have high invasion and expansion capacity, highly competitive with agricultural and native plant species, causing ecological damage. Particularly in Uruguay, poisoning by Senecio have grown exponentially to reach epidemic proportions.

There is increasing evidence that high doses of radiotherapy, like those delivered in stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), trigger indirect mechanisms of cell death. Such effect seems to be two-fold. High doses may trigger an immune response and may cause vascular damage, leading to cell starvation and death.

Extra-Virgin Olive Oil Modifies the Changes Induced in Non-Nervous Organs and Tissues by Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis Models.

This study reveals the existence of oxidative stress (reactive oxygen species (ROS)) in non-nervous organs and tissues in multiple sclerosis (MS) by means of a model of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in rats. This model reproduces a similar situation to MS, as well as its relationship with intestinal microbiota starting from the changes in bacterial lipopolysaccharide levels (LPS) in the outer wall of the gram-negative bacteria. Finally, the administration of extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO), hydroxytirosol (HT), and oleic acid (OA) exert beneficial effects.

Introduction:: Historically the removal of fractured stems was associated with complex revision and loss of bone stock. This study describes a minimally invasive procedure for extraction of the distal part of a broken cemented stem that does not compromise the bone stock and results with the cement-in-cement reconstruction technique.

Materials And Method:: 7 patients with an average age of 74 years who underwent total hip replacement (THR) revision for fracture of femoral stems were included.

This study has evaluated the effect of EVOO (Extra-Virgin olive oil), OA (oleic acid) and HT (hydroxytyrosol) in an induced model of MS through experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).Dark Agouti 2-month old rats (25 males) were divided into five groups: (i) control group, (ii) EAE group, (iii) EAE+EVOO, (iv) EAE+HT, and (v) EAE+OA. At 65 days, the animals were sacrificed and the glutathione redox system and bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and LPS-binding protein (LBP) products of the microbiota in brain, spinal cord, and blood were evaluated.
