The tracking pose of heliostats directly affects the stability and working efficiency of concentrated solar power (CSP) plants. Due to occlusion, over-exposure, and uneven illumination caused by mirror reflection, traditional image processing algorithms showed poor performances on the detection and segmentation of heliostats, which impede vision-based 3D measurement of tracking poses of heliostats. To tackle this issue, object detection using deep learning neural networks are exploited.

Article Synopsis
  • - Racial and ethnic disparities in cancer survival rates remain significant in the U.S. despite improvements, with this analysis focusing on trends from 2002-2006 to 2015-2019 across various cancer types. - The study shows that while some groups, like Non-Hispanic Blacks, saw improvements in survival rates (e.g., breast cancer), they still lag behind Non-Hispanic Whites, and certain populations, such as Non-Hispanic American Indian/Alaska Natives, faced declining survival rates in cancers like colorectal and prostate. - Overall, the findings highlight the urgent need for equitable healthcare strategies to address these disparities, especially in cancers that disproportionately affect specific minority groups, while emphasizing the importance of careful interpretation of the statistical

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines how different types and concentrations of microplastics affect adzuki bean growth, focusing on biomass, root traits, chlorophyll content, and antioxidant enzyme activity.
  • - Findings indicate that all tested microplastics impact plant growth, but PLA (polylactic acid) microplastics are the most detrimental, especially at higher concentrations which significantly reduce chlorophyll levels.
  • - Adzuki beans manage oxidative stress from PE (polyethylene) microplastics by enhancing antioxidant enzyme activity, suggesting their resilience, but overall results indicate a need for deeper investigation into microplastic toxicity mechanisms.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the impact of vascular invasion (VI) on the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and seeks to identify specific biomarkers for patients with VI.
  • Researchers analyzed transcriptome data from HCC tissues using functional enrichment analysis and combined it with clinical data to evaluate the correlation between differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and patient outcomes.
  • A prognostic model was created using seven key genes, which successfully differentiated between low-risk and high-risk HCC patients, indicating that those in the high-risk category had worse prognoses; this model showed strong predictive ability over various time frames.

In this study, we developed a solar ceramic kiln to address the problem of CO emissions caused by traditional ceramic ware firing processes. Ceramic specimens were fired using the proposed setup, and their properties were compared with those of an electric-fired ceramic cup (ECC). The solar-fired ceramic cup (SCC) exhibited no cracks on its surface.

The threat of microplastic pollution in soil ecosystems has caused widespread concern. In order to clarify the effect of polyethylene microplastics on soil properties, a 4-month soil incubation experiment was conducted in this study to investigate the effect of different mass fraction (1 %, 2.5 %, and 5 %) and particle sizes (30 mesh and 100 mesh) of polyethylene microplastics on soil chemical properties, nutrient contents, and enzyme activities.

Concerns over supply risks of critical metals used in electric vehicle (EV) batteries are frequently underscored as impediments to the widespread development of EVs. With the progress to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 for China, projecting the critical metals demand for EV batteries and formulating strategies, especially circular economy strategies, to mitigate the risks of demand-supply imbalance in response to potential obstacles are necessary. However, the development scale of EVs in the transport sector to achieve China's carbon neutrality is unclear, and it remains uncertain to what extent circular economy strategies might contribute to the reduction of primary raw materials extraction.

Neural stem cells (NSCs) transplantation has great potential in the field of central nervous system injury repair, but the limited differentiation efficiency of transplanted NSCs often affects the therapeutic effect. In this paper, we present a stable three-dimensional (3D) conductive hydrogel prepared by cross-linking MXenes to Matrigel hydrogel. Benefiting from 3D microporous network structure of hydrogel, the conductive hydrogel can provide an extracellular matrix-like substrate for NSCs growth.

As a widespread pollutant in the environment, research on microplastics have attracted much attention. This review systematically analyzed the interaction between microplastics and soil microorganisms based on existing literatures. Microplastics can change the structure and diversity of soil microbial communities directly or indirectly.

To investigate the clinicopathological features, treatment and prognosis of Castleman disease in the head and neck. The clinical and pathological data of 18 patients with Castleman disease of the head and neck in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital from 2007 to 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 14 cases of unicentric type and 4 cases of multicentric type.

China is the largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world, and the Chinese government proposes to reduce carbon intensity (CI) by 65% in 2030 compared with 2005. However, literature analyzing whether the current emission reduction policies can effectively help CI reach the policy target is rare. China's CI data from 1978 to 2019, divided into phases using the Bai and Perron (BP) breakpoint test, are evaluated in this study.
