New bimetallic gold/silver nanoclusters (NCs) are reported that display strong blue fluorescence with excitation/emission maxima at 370/455 nm, decay times of around 14 ns for the main components, and a quantum yield of around 20%. The NCs were synthesized by using L-tryptophan (L-Trp) as the template to react with tetrachloroauric acid and silver nitrate at 120 °C for 4 h in a one-pot reaction. Their fluorescence is around 5 times stronger than that of pure gold nanoclusters.

In this paper, a gaseous sensor was described for detection of iso-butanol on the basis of its strong cataluminescence (CTL) emission on nano-MgO surface. The sensor showed high sensitivity and specificity to iso-butanol with response time less than 1 s and recovery time less than 18 s. A good linearly relationship between CTL intensity and the concentration of iso-butanol was observed in the range of 7.

Both high- and low-pathogenic H7N9 influenza A virus (IAV) infections have been found in human and poultry in China, and most human cases are related to contact with infected poultry. It is necessary to develop a rapid and simple method to detect H7N9 IAV in poultry. In this study, 13 monoclonal antibodies (McAbs) against the H7N9 IAV hemagglutinin were developed, and three critical amino acid epitopes (198, 227, 235) were identified based on the reactivity of these variant and wild-type strains with the McAbs.
