Article Synopsis
  • - Coronaviruses rely on the 3C-like protease (3CL) to cut polyprotein precursors and host proteins, but tools for identifying its cleavage sites, especially in Gammacoronaviruses and Deltacoronaviruses, are currently lacking.
  • - This study creates a position-specific scoring matrix (PSSM) using sequence and structural data to pinpoint 3CL cleavage sites, revealing patterns in residue preferences and linking these sites to significant host proteins involved in nucleo-cytoplasmic transport and endocytosis.
  • - Through experimental validation, the researchers identified three key host proteins (NUP58, CDC73, and STAM2) affected by 3CL, highlighting the enzyme's dual role in viral

Multi-view multi-human association and tracking (MvMHAT), is an emerging yet important problem for multi-person scene video surveillance, aiming to track a group of people over time in each view, as well as to identify the same person across different views at the same time, which is different from previous MOT and multi-camera MOT tasks only considering the over-time human tracking. This way, the videos for MvMHAT require more complex annotations while containing more information for self-learning. In this work, we tackle this problem with an end-to-end neural network in a self-supervised learning manner.

Sensing the lowering of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) calcium (Ca), STIM1 mediates a ubiquitous Ca influx process called the store-operated Ca entry (SOCE). Dysregulated STIM1 function or abnormal SOCE is strongly associated with autoimmune disorders, atherosclerosis, and various forms of cancers. Therefore, uncovering the molecular intricacies of post-translational modifications, such as oxidation, on STIM1 function is of paramount importance.

Emitting light toward on-demand directions is important for various optoelectronic applications, such as optical communication, displaying, and ranging. However, almost all existing directional emitters are assemblies of passive optical antennae and external light sources, which are usually bulky and fragile and show unendurable loss of light power. Here we theoretically propose and experimentally demonstrate a conceptual design of a directional emitter, by using a single surface-emitting laser source itself to achieve dynamically controlled beam steering.

Background: Insulin resistance (IR) induces hyperinsulinemia, which activates downstream signaling pathways such as the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/AKT) pathway, ultimately leading to abnormal proliferation and apoptosis of endometrial cells. This is thought to be a key pathogenic mechanism underlying the development of endometrial polyps (EP). This study aims to investigate the relationship between IR and the development of EP, the expression levels of downstream signaling molecules, including PI3K and AKT, and related laboratory parameters were examined.

Studies have shown that the prostaglandin (PG) family acts as an allergic inflammatory mediator in malignant diseases. Furthermore, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and its related receptors, as well as the prostaglandin D2 (PGD2)/PGD2 receptor (PTGDR2), play irreplaceable roles in tumorigenesis and anti-tumor therapy. Several experiments have demonstrated that PGD2 signaling through PTGDR2 not only directly inhibits cancer cell survival, proliferation, and migration but also reduces resistance toward conventional chemotherapeutic agents.
