With the rapid development of mariculture, an increasing amount of antibiotics are being discharged into the marine environment. Effectively removing antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in mariculture wastewater with a relatively high salinity and low C/N presents challenges. Biochar-amended constructed wetlands (CWs) can effectively remove antibiotics, However, few studies have compared the impacts of biochar-amended CWs pyrolyzed at different temperatures on the treatment of mariculture wastewater.

Climate change and air pollution pose significant global health threats, including impacts on diabetes risk; however, their long-term effects on insulin resistance (IR), a key determinant in diabetes pathophysiology, remain unclear. This study investigated whether exposure to heatwaves, temperature fluctuations, and warm-season ozone (O) contributes to or exacerbates IR and explored the potential mediating role of biological aging. The study enrolled 6901 participants and assessed both traditional and novel IR indicators: estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR), triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-c), metabolic score for IR (METS-IR), TyG-body mass index (TyG-BMI), TyG-waist circumference (TyG-WC), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), TyG-WHtR, and lipid accumulation product (LAP).

The vaginal microbiome is critical for the reproductive health of women, yet the differential impacts exerted by the host and by ambient environmental variables on the vaginal microbiome remain largely unknown. Here, we conducted a comprehensive cross-sectional study of the relationships between the vaginal microbiome and 81 matched host and environmental variables across 6755 Chinese women. By 16S rRNA sequencing, we identified four core vaginal microbiota with a prevalence of over 90% and a total median abundance of 98.

The Sirtuin-1 (Sirt1) gene has been reported to be closely associated with the progression of multiple diseases, but its role in regulating osteomyelitis (OM) pathogenesis has not been explored. The murine long bone-derived osteocyte-like MLO-Y4 cells and osteoblast-like MC3T3-E1 cells were exposed to Staphylococcal protein A (SpA) treatment to establish the in vitro OM models. The expression levels of Osteoblast-specific genes (OCN, OPN and RUNX2), osteoclastic genes (CTSK, MMP9 and ACP5) and the FOXO pathway-related proteins (FOXO1, p-FOXO1, FOXO3 and p-FOXO3) were detected by performing Real-Time qPCR and Western Blot analysis.

Immune-modulating peptides have shown potential as novel immune-stimulating agents which enhance the secretion of anticancer cytokines in vitro. However, fast clearance from blood hampers the ability of such peptides to accumulate in the tumour and results in limited therapeutic efficacy in animal studies. To address the fast blood clearance, this work reports the development and validation of a novel polymeric nanoparticle delivery system for the efficient localization of an immunomodulating peptide in the tumour microenvironment (TME).
